How to Prevent Malaria in Babies👇👇
“I did everything… yet my baby still fell sick.”
Many parents say this because they didn’t know prevention starts before the mosquito bites.
Malaria is preventable, even in babies, if the right steps are taken every day.
🦟 1. Let Your Baby Sleep Under a Mosquito Net
This is the most important step.
• Use a treated mosquito net
• Make sure it is well tucked in
• No holes or openings
• Use it every night, not only when mosquitoes are seen
💡 Mosquitoes that cause malaria bite mostly at night.
🏠 2. Protect Your Home
• Close doors and windows before evening
• Use window nets if available
• Remove stagnant water (buckets, tyres, open containers)
• Clear bushes around the house
A clean environment = fewer mosquitoes.
👶🏽 3. Dress Babies Properly at Night
• Long sleeves and long trousers
• Light clothing (to avoid overheating)
• Socks if the weather allows
This reduces exposed skin for mosquito bites.
🚫 4. Be Careful With Sprays and Repellents
• Do not apply mosquito repellents directly on babies
• Avoid strong insecticide sprays in the baby’s room
• If spraying, do it when baby is not inside, and air the room well
Babies’ lungs are very sensitive.
🤰 5. Antenatal Care Protects the Baby
For pregnant mothers:
• Attend antenatal clinic regularly
• Take prescribed malaria prevention drugs
• Sleep under mosquito nets during pregnancy
A healthy pregnancy helps protect the baby after birth.
🌡️ 6. Act Fast When Fever Starts
Prevention also means early action.
• Any fever in a baby should be checked
• Don’t assume “it’s just heat”
• Early testing prevents severe malaria
