Meet Feroza ๐Ÿ‘‹

After spending time in hospital, Feroza moved to Oswald House in Accrington, Lancashire โ€“ our specialist residential service providing rehabilitation, care and support for women with complex mental health conditions.

In our latest video, Feroza reflects on her journey so far and the positive impact that having the right support around her has had on her wellbeing, confidence, and stability.

Speaking about the staff team, Feroza described them as โ€œvery caring and supportiveโ€ and said that โ€œyou can go to them any time of the dayโ€ฆThey make you feel secure and safe.โ€

Feroza also shares her hopes for the future, including moving into her own supported living flat, continuing her development through online courses, and one day pursuing a law degree.

At Oswald House, the support is centred around each individual. This creates a safe and nurturing environment where people can build confidence, strengthen their wellbeing, and move towards greater independence at their own pace.

In our latest video from the new series by our Care in the Home division at Active Care Group, we share Dylanโ€™s story.

Following a car accident after work, Dylan sustained a spinal injury that significantly impacted the use of both his legs and hands. This life-changing event brought new challenges and led him to seek specialist 24-hour support from Active Care in the Home.

Having access to consistent, professional care has enabled Dylan to focus on what matters most to him. With a dedicated carer in place, he receives support with more physically demanding tasks, while maintaining as much independence and control over his daily life as possible.

Just as importantly, the relationship Dylan has built with his carer has helped him feel comfortable, reassured, and confident in the support he receives.

For people living with complex care needs, the right support can be life-changing.

In the second video of the new series from our Care in the Home division at Active Care Group, we share Pattyโ€™s inspiring story.

Following a subarachnoid haemorrhage, Patty spent six months in hospital and lost the ability to drive, cook, and leave her home independently. After meeting with several care providers, Patty and her Case Manager chose Active Care in the Home to support her recovery journey.

In this video, Patty reflects on how the dedication, compassion, and expertise of our incredible support workers have helped her regain confidence, independence, and quality of life.

At Active Care in the Home, we place the individual at the heart of everything we do - supporting not only clinical needs, but also the personal, emotional, and social wellbeing of every person in our care.

Those words will resonate with many families navigating complex care at home.

Weโ€™re proud to share the first video in a new series from our Care in the Home division at Active Care Group.

In this video, Emma shares her son Alexโ€™s journey. Following complications at birth, Alex lives with complex lifelong conditions, including cerebral palsy affecting his limbs, and epilepsy with multiple seizure types, some of which can progress to tonic-clonic seizures.

Emma speaks openly about the realities of daily life. From managing medication and physiotherapy to ensuring Alex has the right support in place. She also reflects on how daunting it initially felt to introduce care at home, and the difference it has made finding a team that brings not just clinical expertise, but empathy, consistency, and clear communication.

For families like Alexโ€™s, care goes beyond clinical support โ€“ itโ€™s about trust, reassurance, and knowing youโ€™re not facing it alone.

Meet Kyle ๐Ÿ‘‹

Following time spent in hospital, Kyle moved to Moorpark Place in North Ayrshire, where he now lives in his own home with dedicated staff support.

In our latest video, Kyle shares his journey and what independent living means to him.

From developing everyday life skills such as cooking and budgeting, to engaging in music therapy, community activities and employment, Kyleโ€™s support is tailored around his goals, interests, and aspirations.

This is what person-centred care looks like in practice. Empowering individuals to live more independently, build confidence, and enjoy a life thatโ€™s meaningful to them.

At Kingly House, supporting people to achieve personal goals is at the heart of what we do.

Recently, one of our residents enjoyed a holiday to Skegness and the chance to spend valuable time with her brother.

With support from our team at Kingly House, alongside colleagues at The Laurels, we were able to make the journey possible and provide the support needed throughout.

Sometimes progress is about the moments that matter most - connection, independence and creating memories with the people who mean the most.

At Active Care Group, progress is often measured in moments that may seem small from the outside, but represent extraordinary courage, resilience, and teamwork.

In our new blog series: โ€œMoments that matter across our servicesโ€, Scot Smith, Chief Commercial Officer, reflects on powerful moments he witnesses whilst visiting our services across the country โ€“ moments that capture the real impact of specialist care and support.

During a recent visit to Rowland House in Surrey, one moment stood out:

A gentleman who before COVID had a simple but meaningful daily routine of walking to the local shop to buy his favourite snacks. When restrictions were introduced, that routine disappeared. Over time, staying indoors became his โ€œnew normalโ€, leading to increased isolation and severe agoraphobia.

Whilst at Rowland House, Scot witnessed the gentleman take his first independent steps outside and returned to his local shop to buy his favourite snacks, supported throughout by our dedicated team. ๐ŸŒŸ

On the surface, it may seem like a small act, but it was an extraordinary demonstration of courage, resilience, and the power of consistent, compassionate support.

Moments like this remind us that recovery and rehabilitation are not defined by grand gestures, but by restoring independence, dignity, and confidence - one step at a time.

Following a serious workplace accident, Gary sustained multiple life-changing injuries, including complex fractures, spinal trauma and nerve damage.

When Gary was admitted to Hunters Moor, our neurological rehabilitation and residential service in Birmingham, he had severely restricted mobility and required full hoist transfers.

Through a structured multidisciplinary rehabilitation programme, Gary began making meaningful progress โ€“ both physically and in rebuilding his independence.

๐Ÿ“Š Garyโ€™s trunk control score improved from 0 to 61, demonstrating major improvements in postural stability and functional mobility. This progress was also reflected through tools such as FIM+FAM, a key measure used in rehabilitation to track functional independence and recovery.

By the time Gary was discharged from Hunters Moor, he had achieved significant milestones, including:

๐Ÿ”น Mobilising with a walking stick
๐Ÿ”น Independent sit-to-stand transfers
๐Ÿ”น Able to maintain hydration independently
๐Ÿ”น Significant improvements in functional mobility and daily living skills

Gary has since progressed even further and can now walk indoors independently without a stick. He continues working towards the same level of independence outdoors. As Gary explains:

โ Walking out of Hunters Moor with supervision and one stick was a huge achievement Iโ€™ll never forget. There are still challenges, especially with the movement in my left arm, but compared to where I started, the progress feels incredible. Iโ€™m proud of what Iโ€™ve achieved, and Iโ€™m determined to keep going.โž

Garyโ€™s journey highlights the impact specialist neurorehabilitation, advanced rehabilitation technologies and outcomes-focused multidisciplinary care can have in supporting people to rebuild independence.
