On Rare Disease Day, we shine a light on hypoparathyroidism, a rare condition that affects calcium regulation and is often misunderstood.

While hyperparathyroidism is common, hypo remains under-recognised and under-supported.

Rare deserves visibility.

Day One of BAETS 🦋

Interview with the wonderful Alison Waghorn on the patient experience of Hypoparathyroidism, this lead to some really productive and engaging conversations.

The brilliant Professor Neil Gittoes presenting a paper on the efficacy and safety of Paleopegteriparitide treatment. A potentially very exciting and life changing study for patients.

Looking forward to day 2 tomorrow 🎉 we’ll be doing a talk on hyperpara!

Hi all,

We know that living with parathyroid conditions can be worrying and it’s natural to want advice. However, please remember that our patient groups are not a substitute for professional medical care.
• We cannot diagnose conditions, recommend treatments, or suggest specific medicines.
• Only a qualified healthcare professional who knows your full medical history can give you safe, accurate advice.

This is to protect everyone’s safety. Medical advice given without a proper examination or full knowledge of your circumstances could be inaccurate, unsafe, or delay you getting the right care.

If you have any concerns about your health or medication, please speak directly to your GP, pharmacist, or specialist.

We’re here to share experiences, offer emotional support, and help each other navigate living with our conditions, but not to replace medical care.

Thank you for understanding and helping to keep the groups safe.

Absolutely devastated to share the news of the passing of Professor Bill Fraser. Bill has been a great friend of the charity and supported us immensely. He was a wonderful man and will be dreadfully missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this awful time.

I am retiring as CEO of Parathyroid UK today after 20 years so I just wanted to thank you all for your wonderful support and say a heartfelt goodbye. We’ve come a very long way together from the days when hypopara was unknown but there is still a way to go so I’m leaving you in the very capable hands of two passionate and hard working successors, Helen Hopkins and Lucy Weigall. I know you will give them the support you’ve given me as they settle into their new roles as joint CEOs and take us all into a brand new era. Take very good care of yourselves. Hugs and thanks to you all. It’s been the privilege of my life X
