I won’t be teaching my Sunday class for the next 3 Sundays - due to work and weddings.
The next class at yonder will be on Sunday 28 June.
Diana Clifton (one of the first Uk students of BKS Iyengar and one of the first UK Iyengar teachers) said - you come to a class to learn. Your practice is done at home.
What we do in class is absorbed and processed on a much deeper level when you do it for yourself on your mat. And developing a Sadhana - a practice of your own - will stand you in good stead both mentally and physically. To quote Patanjali sutra 2.16 ‘heyam duhkham angatam’ - ‘the suffering that is to come can be, and should be avoided.’
So if you can, whilst waiting for the next class make some time to do your own practice and discover what you have learnt at the classes you’ve attended. Practise some things you find easy and some things you find difficult. Try to remember some of the modifications and prop setups we have used to make harder asanas more accessible. Look for a feeling of quietness in the asanas, as a guide that you are on the right track. And always remember to practise savasana at the end.
