Many people think their inner critic is something to fight or silence. But for most, it began as something very different: a survival strategy.
A part of you that learned to stay alert. To keep the peace. To avoid conflict. To stay acceptable. To stay safe.
When you understand where the critic came from, the whole story shifts. It becomes less of an enemy and more of a part of you that is still working from an old job description.
My latest blog explores why the critic forms so early, why it becomes so persistent, and why it often gets louder when you are doing well. It also explains what helps it soften so it no longer runs everything in the background.
If your critic feels louder than it should, this piece will help you understand why it developed and what can help it soften.

When you have spent years relying on overthinking to feel safe, slowing down can feel unfamiliar. Many people assume they should be able to switch their mind off on command, but the truth is that a busy mind is usually a sign that you have been carrying too much for too long.
You are not meant to solve everything at once. You are not meant to hold every possible outcome in your head. You are allowed to rest without earning it.
If your thoughts have been looping more than usual, it is often a sign that your mind is trying to protect you, not punish you. With the right support, it is possible to create more space, more clarity and a calmer internal pace.
If you would like to explore this pattern in a grounded, practical way, you can read more about my overthinking support here.

SUPPORT FOR OVERTHINKING AND ANXIETY
Help for when your mind will not switch off.
Overthinking often begins as a way to feel safe. You replay conversations, analyse small details or run through every possible outcome because it feels like the only way to stay in control. Over time, this constant mental effort can leave you exhausted, tense and unable to rest, even when nothing urgent is happening.
If you recognise this pattern, it is not a sign that you are weak or failing. It is a learned response that once helped you cope, but now keeps you stuck in a cycle of worry and second-guessing.
Through Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT), we explore where these patterns began and gently release the beliefs that keep your mind in overdrive. The aim is to help you think clearly, trust your decisions and feel more settled in yourself.
If you would like to understand this work in more detail, you can read more about my overthinking support here.

Many people think confidence is something you either have or you do not. In reality, it is often shaped by the small, everyday moments that teach you how to speak to yourself.
If your inner critic has been louder recently, it does not mean you are failing. It usually means you have been carrying too much for too long, or you have been trying to meet expectations that were never realistic in the first place.
You are allowed to grow at a steady pace. You are allowed to make mistakes without turning them into evidence against yourself. You are allowed to speak to yourself with the same fairness you offer other people.
If you are exploring this pattern and want support with it, you can read more about my Inner Critic work here.

THERAPY FOR SELF BELIEF
Support for your inner critic when confidence feels quieter than it used to.
For many people, the inner critic does not shout. It whispers. It shows up as replaying small mistakes, feeling responsible for things that were never yours to carry, or a sense of guilt that does not match the situation. Over time, this constant self monitoring can leave you tense, on edge, or worried about getting things wrong even when nothing is actually wrong.
If you recognise this pattern, it is not a personal flaw. It is a protective response your mind learned a long time ago, one that may no longer be helping you.
Through Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT), we explore where these patterns began and gently release the beliefs that keep you stuck in self doubt. The aim is not to become louder or more forceful. It is to build a steady, grounded sense of self worth that feels natural and sustainable.
If you would like support with this, you can read more about my approach here.

Confidence and Safety Often Go Hand in Hand

A lot of people think their confidence is “broken”. It isn’t. It’s protected.

For so many people, confidence doesn’t feel empowering at first. It feels exposing. It feels risky. It feels like stepping into a version of yourself your nervous system isn’t sure it can keep safe.

And when confidence feels unsafe, your mind will do anything to pull you back into the familiar, even if the familiar is small, quiet, or exhausting.

If confidence has ever felt uncomfortable, “too much”, or like something you have to force, there is usually a reason. Your system isn’t sabotaging you. It’s protecting you in the only way it learned to.

If this feels close to home, you’re not alone in it. And it can change.

If this feels familiar, you’re welcome to reach out privately, you don’t have to navigate this alone.

When Confidence Feels Unsafe

Sometimes confidence is not blocked by lack of ability. It is blocked by a part of the mind that learned long ago that being visible, capable or outspoken was not safe.

For many people, confidence does not feel empowering at first. It feels exposing. It feels risky. It feels like stepping into a version of yourself that your nervous system is not sure it can protect.

Hypnotherapy Directory have just published a new article exploring why this happens and how the mind tries to keep you safe, even when it holds you back.
You can read it here:

Why does confidence feel unsafe? Discover how anxiety can act as protection and how to build lasting trust in yourself over time.

When a Quiet Moment Doesn’t Feel Quiet
New blog now live.

Some people feel fear only in obviously stressful situations.
Others feel it in the middle of an ordinary moment, a small sensation, a shift in awareness, a flicker of “something feels off”.

If your nervous system reacts faster than you can think, it can feel confusing and exhausting.
You are not being dramatic. You are not imagining it. And you are not alone in it.

This new blog explains:
• why these fear responses happen
• why they appear in harmless moments
• what it tends to look like day to day
• how RTT hypnotherapy helps calm the pattern at its root

If this sounds familiar, you can read the full piece here:

After Monday’s post, a few people messaged saying they didn’t realise how much of their day was shaped by quiet fear, not panic, just the constant scanning for what might go wrong.

If you’ve lived like this for years, it can feel normal. But your mind isn’t meant to be on high alert all the time.

One small shift I see often is this: when people finally understand why their fear responses formed, the pressure eases. It stops feeling like a personal flaw and starts making sense.

Understanding is often the first moment the nervous system can breathe again.
