Public speaking is shifting. The 2026 Trends Report highlights something many thoughtful professionals already feel. People are moving away from polished performance and towards communication that feels grounded, human and emotionally safe.
For many, speaking up is not about being bold. It is about feeling steady enough to show up as themselves. This shift is changing how confidence is understood, and it is giving people permission to communicate in ways that feel more natural and less pressured.

Many people think confidence comes from big, bold moments. But the State of Speaking Practice 2026 shows something reassuring, most people build confidence through tiny speaking moments that last under a minute.
If you’ve spent years holding back in meetings or avoiding visibility, this is good news. You don’t need to be loud or brave. You just need small, gentle practice. One idea. One minute. One moment of being seen.
My new blog explores why confidence grows when you practise visibility in manageable, emotionally safe ways. Read it here.

You are not behind, you are overloaded

Many articles this summer have highlighted how common it is to freeze, slow down or struggle with decisions when life becomes too full. These are normal signs of an overwhelmed system, not personal failure. If you have been hard on yourself lately, this week’s blog offers a gentler way to understand what is happening and how to support yourself through it.

"I know it sounds silly, but I just couldn't handle it."

I hear some version of this a lot. Something small happens, a plan changes, keys go missing, someone asks a question at the wrong moment, and it feels completely out of proportion to react the way you do.

It's not silly, and it's not overreacting. It's usually the final straw on a stack you didn't realise was already unstable.

My latest article looks at why these small moments hit so hard, and what it actually means when they do (spoiler: it's not that you're failing).

Reduce first, add later

When people feel overwhelmed, the instinct is usually to do more, work harder, catch up faster. It rarely helps. What actually settles an overloaded system is removing something first, a task, a notification, an expectation you placed on yourself. This week's blog explains why less is often the faster route back to calm.

Your body often knows before your mind does

A lot of recent reporting has focused on how overwhelm shows up physically long before we notice it mentally. Tight shoulders, shallow breathing and a tense jaw are often early signs that your system is carrying too much. If you have been feeling this way, this week’s blog explains how checking in with your body can soften anxiety and help you feel clearer again.

Most people don't realise how much they're carrying until something tiny throws them off balance.

It's rarely the big life events. It's the mental notes, the unfinished jobs, the conversations you meant to have, the responsibility you feel for things no one actually asked you to manage.

In my latest article, I look at how overwhelm builds quietly, why the smallest thing can suddenly feel enormous, and what starts to shift once the mind gets a chance to slow down.

A question before you scroll on

Where are you holding tension right now? Jaw, shoulders, chest. Often the body knows you're overwhelmed before your mind catches up. This week's blog looks at why checking in physically, even for thirty seconds, can shift your whole state faster than trying to think yourself calm.

You're not lazy, you're overloaded

Struggling to start things, freezing on decisions, doing small pointless jobs instead of the big one you meant to do. It can feel like a character flaw. It isn't. It's what an overloaded nervous system does to protect itself. This week's blog unpacks what's actually happening underneath, and why being kinder to yourself is more effective than pushing harder.
