You go to the Doctor and they decide to run some blood tests.
You think great, I’m finally going to get to the bottom of what’s causing my symptoms.
The results come back normal.
As far as the Doctor is concerned, that’s the end of it.
But you’re still struggling.
It’s frustrating because you know something isn’t right.
This is way too common.
I was asked to review some blood tests recently that all came back normal, with a few that were just outside of range.
When I review test results, I’m using different reference ranges that look at levels needed for your body to function OPTIMALLY, so you perform at your best.
I picked up that there could be low levels of B12 or folate even though this wasn’t tested.
Then she told me her symptoms…
Feeling weak
Extreme fatigue
Very little sleep
Anxious, impending doom feeling
Racing heart
Tinnitus
Difficulty concentrating and brain fog
Feeling confused and tearful
Lack of desire to do anything
Tingling and numbness in hands and feet
Joint/muscle pain
Loss of balance
All these fit with B12 or folate deficiency. This person is also not a vegan or vegetarian.
I recommended testing for B12 and folate asap.
Low levels of nutrients can have a HUGE impact on your health. Left untreated B12 deficiency can have very serious consequences.
Sometimes Doctors can miss things. They receive very limited nutrition training, they’re stretched and have limited time for each patient.
This is why working with a nutritionist can be really beneficial. I can't make a diagnosis but I can look through your symptoms and test results with a different lens.
I’ve got the time to delve deep into what’s really going on, your health history, food, lifestyle, and behaviours.
I can help you work with your doctor to get the answers you need.
