Parents commonly bring their babies for craniosacral therapy treatment if they are suffering from colic or other digestive problems, are unsettled, have problems sleeping, or have problems associated with difficult or traumatic births. Letting go of tension and fear held in the body enables both mother and baby to settle into calmness.
Babies can be treated while asleep, feeding, or cradled in their mother’s arms. There is no need to undress them.

The process of childbirth involves a series of complex movements and adjustments as the baby passes through the birth canal. This journey can involve twists, turns, and compressions as the baby's head and body navigate through the mother's pelvis. The ability of a baby's skull to reshape and adapt is a remarkable aspect of human physiology that aids in the successful passage through the birth canal and early postnatal development. After birth, the baby's cranium bones can continue to adapt and reshape within a few days. This adaptation can occur through actions like yawning, sucking, breastfeeding, and crying. Difficulties may arise if the baby's skull bones become compressed or have trouble releasing naturally after childbirth. This can occur for many reasons, such as very long or quick births, unusual foetal positions, or during births involving medical interventions like forceps, suction, or Caesarean sections.
Craniosacral therapy is effective in dealing with the effects of birth trauma, including both the compressive forces exerted on the skull and the shock effects of a traumatic birth.

On my yoga mat this morning!Trying to keep up with just a little daily practice because I think it makes all the difference in the world to me Clients often ask me what I do for myself to keep myself feeling the way they do after a craniosacral session, so I thought that while I have a little time on summer break from my counselling degree, I’d take some time to share some of what I’m doing right now.

Firstly, yes, I love craniosacral for myself. It has seen me through 25 years of emotional ups and downs and though I still use other therapies from time to time, I find craniosacral to be the most profound in the depth of change it can produce emotionally, physically and in my nervous system.

I first learned yoga when I was 21 suffering from crippling depression and anxiety. I have always credited the daily practice of the combination of the postures, breathwork and relaxation with my recovery and I will return to it over and over again . Currently I feel I need it more physically for my joints and spine.

Followed by a little turmeric and ginger shot 😄

More to follow!

A very happy New Year from the Elphick Clinic!
It might look like a very boring picture of an ordinary building but in fact it’s a very exciting one.
The Elphick clinic is starting off the New Year gloriously scaffolding free 👏🏼
I am very excited to be able to offer more appointments again in a beautiful, tranquil space.
I look forward to seeing you very soon.

Come and see us Mum and Baby well-being hub on Saturday 6th July. We love the journey from bump to baby and can support with pre-conception health, fertility issues, pregnancy wellbeing, birth preparation, post natal recovery and can help unsettled babies with colic or other discomforts especially after a difficult birth.

I was very privileged to be with this gorgeous little one and his mum through every step of the journey including providing birth support on his arrival!

Please come and see us at our well-being mum and baby hub on Saturday 6th July at Margaret’s Fair for advice about how craniosacral therapy, reflexology, chiropractic, osteopathy, acupuncture and doulas can help you through the smoothest pregnancy and birth to the happiest, healthiest of babies.
