A new independent report makes a strong economic case for greater investment in prosthetic and orthotic (P&O) services across the UK.

Commissioned by the British Association of Prosthetics & Orthotics - BAPO and produced by Cebr, the analysis estimates that addressing the P&O workforce gap could generate around £126 million in net health and social care savings in the first year. It also estimates that every £1 invested could deliver an additional £1.28 in net health and social care savings.

The UK Government has tabled three amendments to the Health Bill that could help shape the future regulation of medicines and medical devices in the UK.

The Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has recently announced the proposals, which cover amended information-sharing powers, measures to make medicines and medical devices legislation easier to update, and enabling powers to support a future medical device licensing regime. Tender opportunity 🔔
BHTA members providing prosthetic and orthotic products, clinical services, and rehabilitation support are encouraged to review a new Ministry of Defence (MOD) tender for an on-site prosthetics and orthotics rehabilitation service at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) in the East of England. The service will form part of the centre’s interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitating severely injured service personnel.
