I'm seeing more and more young fathers who are at breaking point.

They go to work, meeting demands all day and as soon as they step through the door, they are taking care of children, cooking, housework, etc.

Just as it is tough for the working mothers, we must not forget that getting that balance is becoming tough for fathers.

Do you know the difference between hard work in a flow state and a hyper-aroused state? The experience and outcomes are worlds apart!

I find that when I meet clients who are burnt out and approaching a breakdown, that they have been operating in a hyper-aroused state for too long. When they stop, they feel bored, so they do more. When someone stops in a flow state, they experience relaxation.

Getting into a flow state requires a self awareness that is in touch with your skillset, and makes time and space to nurture and grow that skillset.

Hard work in this state is meaningful, manageable and consistent. It’s simply such a beautiful state!

I often hear clients who are burnt out say this.

The first step to recovering from burnout is recognising you are burnt out. This can be very scary. There are still lots of misconceptions about burnout. People fear it means doing less or giving up a successful career, so they avoid addressing it.

I see burnout as a signal for change and growth. Post-recovery from burnout, I help you to do more, not less. Do more of you and more of what's right for you!

I find leaders who have a strong core belief that 'I'm a good girl/guy' can take psychological safety too far.

It is often with good intentions. These leaders spread a thin layer of niceness over a thick layer of a wider culture of fear.

There is the appearance of harmony, but in reality there is often dysfunction simmering beneath the surface, that results in a lack of honest communication and accountability, and leaders doing the work of juniors because 'it's easier to do it myself.'... PAUSE and take a step back and just take in the mess that this creates!...

Psychological safety requires the respectful communication of high standards!
