The number 137: One of Physics' Greatest Mysteries... But What Does It Really Mean?

I recently watched a fascinating video claiming that the number 137 is connected to consciousness, the Higgs boson and even the boundary between light and darkness.

It's certainly intriguing.

But it also raises an important question...

How much is established science, and how much is interpretation?

Scientists have known for decades that the fine-structure constant (approximately 1/137.036) is one of the most important numbers in physics.

It describes the strength of the electromagnetic interaction between light and electrically charged particles.

What makes it so remarkable is this:

Nobody knows why this number has the value it does.

That's one of the great unsolved mysteries of physics.

Where the discussion becomes more speculative is when 137 is presented as consciousness itself or the boundary between the conscious and subconscious mind.
