Medical cannabis has been legal in the UK since 2018. But nearly eight years later, barriers to access still remain.
A recent Drug Science article explores some of the challenges patients continue to face, from limited NHS prescribing and the cost of private treatment to awareness, education and wider healthcare inequalities.
For us, one of the most important parts of improving access is making sure patients understand that a legal, clinically supervised pathway exists and what that pathway actually involves.
There is still work to do. More awareness, more education, more research and clearer information for patients.
Because legalisation was only the beginning.
