As I enter my 27th year of clinical practice as an acupuncturist, I want to thank my patients for the trust you place in me.

After all these years, my commitment to supporting patients remains strong. With each year, my understanding continues to deepen through experience, reflection, and ongoing learning.

Earlier this year, I met with male fertility specialist Jonathan Ramsay to discuss unexplained infertility and the importance of male fertility testing. Our conversation led to an article, now published in and on Mr Ramsay’s website.

The article explores the causes of male infertility and asks why “unexplained infertility” remains such a common diagnosis. As Mr Ramsay explains, this is often due to incomplete investigation particularly on the male side, and highlights the importance of appropriate male fertility assessment, including s***m DNA fragmentation testing.

In June, I received my Fellowship award (2023). I’m deeply grateful to Alex Jacobs and the British Acupuncture Council for the recognition and support.

And finally, a podcast conversation with Alex Jacobs, CEO of the British Acupuncture Council, where we
discussed clinical practice, professional standards, and acupuncture training.

Grateful to receive this feedback from one of my patients who I supported through two IVF treatment cycles, for both of her children.

Preparing the body and nervous system for IVF is an important part of the process. A holistic treatment plan can be a valuable addition to medical protocols — supporting the body, regulating the nervous system, and helping to optimise each cycle.

A lovely google review from a recent IVF patient 💙

We spent a few months preparing ahead of her cycle:
• physical and emotional support
• regulating stress and anxiety
• optimising overall cycle health

Preparing for IVF is key.
• ideal preparation time: 3–4 months
• but acupuncture is helpful at any stage of the journey

How acupuncture support for IVF:
• improves blood flow to the uterus and ovaries
• regulates the nervous system + reduces stress and anxiety
• supports hormonal balance
• helps regulate the menstrual cycle
• supports egg development
• helps optimise the uterine lining
• supports overall cycle regulation
• and research shows regular acupuncture before IVF may help improve overall treatment outcomes

This is one of the most common — and often misunderstood — questions I’m asked.

In my clinical experience, and in line with current evidence, the answer is ideally at least 3 months before starting IVF.

This preparation time allows acupuncture to:
• May improve egg quality as follicles develop over time
• Reduce inflammation, supporting a healthier internal environment
• Help manage stress and anxiety by regulating the nervous system
• Support hormonal balance and uterine receptivity

Research increasingly highlights the importance of treatment dosage and frequency, not just having acupuncture at embryo transfer.

That said, I support people at all stages of their IVF journey — and even when time is limited, acupuncture can still be helpful.

Acupuncture is holistic medicine. Supporting complex systems — including the reproductive, hormonal, and nervous systems — takes time and consistency.

Preparation is key to help optimise your IVF cycle.

Acupuncture Awareness Week is dedicated to celebrating the many remarkable aspects of acupuncture. We want to highlight the high educational standards upheld by our members of the British Acupuncture Council and what this means for our practitioners and the work they do.

In this special episode of the Cultivating Traditions podcast, Alex Jacobs BAcC CEO, sits down with Colette Assor, a Fellow of the British Acupuncture Council who has spent over 25 years promoting acupuncture as a trusted, evidence-based profession. Colette shares her journey from her early training in traditional Chinese medicine to becoming a passionate advocate for integrated healthcare, where acupuncture complements conventional medicine to enhance patients' physical and emotional well-being.

Together, we discuss how acupuncture is making a significant impact in areas such as mental health, fertility care, and menopause management. We also emphasize the importance of regulation, education, and professional standards for the future of this ancient yet evolving practice. This conversation revolves around trust, collaboration, and the power of holistic care, where tradition and modern healthcare converge for the benefit of every patient.

During , I’m sharing Holly’s story — her experience of how acupuncture supported her after miscarriage and helped her to conceive, as shared on her wonderful podcast .

🎧 In her episode, Holly talks about how, after her miscarriage, her cycles had become much shorter and lighter — and how starting weekly fertility acupuncture helped bring her cycles back to balance.

While acupuncture can’t directly make you pregnant, it can help optimise reproductive health, regulate cycles, and support emotional wellbeing on the fertility journey — something Holly shares beautifully in her story.

“I started getting fertility acupuncture with Colette. Honestly, I’ll put some of the reason why I’m pregnant down to her — she’s phenomenal.”

It’s Acupuncture Awareness Week 🕊️

A very special week in the acupuncture calendar!

This week highlights the growing evidence for acupuncture as an integral part of holistic healthcare and well as the wonderful work all our acupuncturists do every day.

An article i wrote recently interviewing Professor Jonathan Ramsay says on Acupuncture:
acupuncture supports patients not only physically, but emotionally — helping to reduce stress, improve wellbeing, and provide a continuity of care often missing in conventional medicine.

With over 26 years’ clinical experience, my practice focuses on fertility, IVF, and all areas of women’s health — combining acupuncture, lifestyle guidance, and calm, supportive care throughout every stage of treatment.

Feeling grateful to see my latest article featured on Mr Jonathan Ramsay’s website — exploring the often-overlooked role of male fertility, unexplained infertility and the importance of integrated care including Acupuncture and nutrition.

A reminder of how powerful collaboration can be in supporting couples on their fertility journey.
