THE ZONE.
This is where heightened focus and attention leads to clarity and calmness which enhances our performance or productivity. A familiar state of mind for an athlete.

Meditation is an ancient practice dating back to Ancient Kemet (Egypt) that has now resurfaced to almost be mainstream.
With apps like Headspace and free YouTube videos it is now easier than ever to be in the present and find that flow state - the Zone.

🔸Pre Activity:
Meditation can be done prior to a session to set your intentions and focus on what you want to achieve.

🔸During Activity:
Being focused on the current situation reduces errors, rather than feeling fear or tension about a missed shot or the potential to lose a game.

🔸Post Activity:
Meditation can help to calm the mind post activity to ensure that the mind can recover just as the body will need to recover after physical and psychological stresses, reducing sports anxiety.

🔸Recovery:
Following injury there is a psychological impact which can be balanced by accepting what has happened and working towards full rehabilitation without thinking excessively about the past or the future.

When training our body we should aim to also train our mind so that as individuals, and as a collective, the mind state we can achieve is one of poise and calmness as stated by the late great Kobe Bryant.

There is a brief meditation exercise at the end of the video which simply involves focusing on the breath as you breathe in and out slowly. Enjoy🧘🏽‍♀️🧘🏽‍♂️

Although things are disrupted right now, we all have a bit more time to ourselves to nurture and acknowledge the stresses we have put on our body through the daily grind and continuous training.

Whether you have a specific injury or non-specific aches and pains, Active Healing is here to provide a service that extends beyond aesthetics. 🧘🏽‍♀️

While everyone is rightfully enjoying the sea of choice surrounding home workouts, it is still likely that injuries will happen due to a lack of personalisation, overuse, incorrect technique as well as other factors such as a decrease in activity while being at home. 🏡🔐

Become an active participant in your healing with the correct guidance, education and implementation. 🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏾‍♂️

Tell your people where to go for personalised rehab and advice 🤝

FOCUS
on the technique
on the outcome
on your WHY
Everything we do has a purpose. Focus on that purpose and maximise your output! - getting back on top using prehab, stretching and cool downs to attack the court every day 💪🏼🇬🇧🇳🇬 @ London, United Kingdom

Working with LUKE NELSON 🇪🇸🇬🇧 & this week preparing for camp!

How do you deal with injuries?
Understand your body, understand movement and get back to your best self using preventative strategies such as prehab, and strengthening to condition muscles and tendons for the strain placed on them during training and games!

QUICK LESSON! 🧠📚
🤾🏽‍♂️The Achilles tendon goes under significant stress due to quick stops and directional changes during basketball. It is also essential for landing and jumping.
👟 Ill-fitting shoes can also place additional strain on the tendon, check that your shoes are not pushing on the tendon!
📈 Rapid increase in intensity can lead to added stress on the tendon. Remember to PROGRESSIVELY OVERLOAD and prepare your body to train before doing 100% intensity

Achilles Tendon Treatment 🦶🏼
➡️ REST is always important immediately after injury to give the tissues time to recover and reduce inflammation
➡️ TAPING can be used as shown in the video to relieve pain and increase blood flow to the affected area
➡️ STRETCHING your calf muscles can reduce the strain placed on your Achilles tendon. However, strengthening the tendon and connected muscles (gastrocnemius/soleus) is more important when reducing the chance of injury!
➡️ STRENGTHENING exercises using concentric, eccentric and isometric contractions. ISOMETRIC contractions have an analgesic effect i.e. pain relief. Eccentric and concentric loading exercises such as calf raises will help you to progress back to play.

Working carefully with acute ACL injury post reconstruction surgery back in April - youth player heard audible pop during training which was an ACL rupture !
Here I am comparing the reduced range of motion to the non-injured side. Full range of motion is the first target to achieve if she is to return to Basketball. This could be a career ending injury, especially if you do not have the vast facilities at Valencia Basket or NBA so take action today!
To PREVENT ACL injuries, strengthen Quads and Hamstrings through training all year round (off the court!) Implement the correct LANDING TECHNIQUE and PIVOT using the entire lower limb.
