🍂🥶 **Whoa! The temperature has dropped and it's suddenly feeling very autumn-y!**
Anyone else catching themselves wandering around with their shoulders practically glued to their ears? 🙋♀️
As soon as the chilly weather arrives, all those familiar winter aches and niggles seem to come back with a vengeance.
But here's a little reminder from our osteopaths: **hunching your shoulders up to your ears won't actually make you any warmer!** 😂
So, here are **3 quick stretches to help persuade those shoulders to relax:**
🙆 **1. The Shoulder Shrug & Drop**
Breathe in and gently lift your shoulders towards your ears. Hold for a couple of seconds, then breathe out and let them drop. Repeat 5 times. Feel that tension melt away!
🧣 **2. The Gentle Neck Stretch**
Sit or stand tall, relax your shoulders and slowly tilt one ear towards the same shoulder (without lifting the shoulder to meet it!). Hold for 15–20 seconds, then swap sides. No pulling or forcing.
🪽 **3. The Shoulder Blade Squeeze**
Let your arms hang comfortably by your sides and gently draw your shoulder blades together, as though you're trying to hold a pencil between them. Hold for 5 seconds, relax and repeat 5 times.
And there you have it – a minute or two to remind your body that **the answer to chilly weather is another jumper, not permanently raised shoulders!** 🧥
Keep the movements gentle and comfortable, and stop if anything causes pain, dizziness or tingling.
If those winter aches and pains are becoming a regular nuisance, our osteopaths at The Maris Practice are always happy to help.
