We spoke to Disability News Service about the recent Supreme Court ruling on Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and what they mean for Disabled people:

“We are deeply concerned about the Supreme Court ruling on Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards as it will lead to many more people with learning difficulties and autistic people being deprived of their freedoms based on disability alone."

“We are deeply concerned that the judgement will allow for increased restraints and restrictions to continue [and for] people with learning difficulties and autistic people to be abused and to be locked up forever regardless."

Nine years after Grenfell, Disabled people are still being failed on fire safety.

Almost half of those who died in the Grenfell Tower fire were Disabled people. Many had no Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) in place. These deaths were preventable.

On the anniversary of Grenfell, we are warning that the Government’s new RPEEP regulations do not deliver the protections Deaf and Disabled people were promised.

The regulations leave too much discretion to building owners and managers, fail to guarantee accessible communication, and exclude many Disabled residents based on building height, evacuation strategy and housing tenure.

Disabled people should not have to fight for the right to survive an emergency.

We are calling on the Government to work with Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations to create legislation that genuinely protects Disabled residents and ensures nobody is left trapped without a safe way out.

Join the Grenfell Silent Walk on Sunday 14h June 2026 at 6pm, starting from Notting Hill Methodist Church.

Remember. Honour. Demand Justice.

We're so proud of the newest graduates of our Growing Our Own Leaders programme!

The programme gives Deaf and Disabled Londoners the chance to lead on a project to create change for their community or organisation. Participants took part in a year of training and development, growing their skills and confidence before leading their own project.

Applications for the next round of the programme will open later in the year.
