Hey I'm Lou, a holistic postpartum doula, and today is day 21/24 if me sharing the realities of this work over 24 days so people can better understand what support can look like.

The reality is that I am also a mama to an epic 6 year old and like many of you, currently in the middle of the summer holidays so thought I'd share a snippet of what life has been like as we start week three of the summer hols!

Among the theatre trip for Wildlings born day, can't recommend My Neighbour Totoro enough! We hung out with Friends at the cinema for Maona and Littleville Orpington

We've also had some much needed down time either up the allotment or at home crafting and allowing space to be bored.

A second chest infection has its hold on me at the moment so we are in deep rest with a dance club and child minder 1.5 days this week before we head on our hols next Thursday and I cannot wait.

I find mothering can be 'easier' in the summer in some ways as you get out way more but also the constant pull and pressure to be, to feed with endless snacks is a lot plus multiple heatwaves makes vibes a ride...like much of motherhood it becomes a contradiction...always reminding meself that multiple feelings and experiences can and do co-exist at the same time.

How are your summer hols?

Hi, I’m Lou, a holistic postpartum doula, sharing what actually makes a difference in this work on day 19/24.

But if you want to know what I'm definitely saying it's this…

When family and friends show up for you first and foremost, when you are held and heard in your needs you have space, time and capacity to lean into the rest you need and deserve to support your postpartum recovery, regardless of how your birth unfolded.

I’ve seen the power and importance of spaces where like-minded women can gather.

There are seismic shifts when women can speak unfiltered with zero judgement but heaps of compassion.

This isn’t me being woowoo, this is biology - your brain shifts, you change physically and psychologically, and your nervous system begins to settle.

To be held, heard and honoured by other women is something everyone Mother should feel and have as a standard part of postpartum care and throughout motherhood.

Hi, I’m Lou, a Holistic Postpartum Doula, sharing the heart of my work, and who I am, for 24 days and today is day 17!

Here’s a little more about the person behind the Birth and Motherhood Collective.

I’m Lou, I live in Kent with my partner and our epic 6 year old wildling.

I am a holistic postpartum doula who is passionate about how you feel in your postpartum. You will hear me banging me drum loudly that rest in postpartum is essential!

When I am not doing that I might be getting crafty with wildling or by meself - yesterday I taught them how to punch needle or have me head in a good read!

If you’re pregnant and want to set boundaries so you can fully lean into rest, unapologetically, in your postpartum, welcome, you’re in the right place!
