👉Most swollen lymph nodes are nothing to worry about.
They often appear when your immune system is fighting a common infection such as a cold, sore throat or dental infection.
However, some swollen lymph nodes should be assessed by a GP, especially if they:
• remain swollen for several weeks
• continue to increase in size
• appear without an obvious cause
• are associated with persistent fever, night sweats or unexplained weight loss
A swollen lymph node is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The important step is understanding why it has appeared, rather than assuming the worst.
If you’re unsure whether your symptoms need medical attention, a GP assessment can help determine whether reassurance, monitoring or further investigations are appropriate.
