Your thoughts can become patterns.

If “I can’t sleep” becomes something you tell yourself night after night, your brain can start to expect being awake.

Change the belief. Change the pattern.

Pull the blankets up, close your eyes, and press play. Let yourself settle in, I’ll take it from here.

Here’s a little extract from one of my sleep stories.

Save this for tonight and send it to someone who may need this reminder🌙

We speak so much about sleep as something we need to fix from the outside world, but have you ever thought that it might be a belief you’ve picked up along the way?

Maybe it’s “I’m not a good sleeper” or “I just can’t fall asleep at night.”

I see so many clients who think they need to fix the externals to improve their sleep, when sometimes the real shift comes from looking inwards at the belief, the pattern or the story you keep telling yourself.

If you want to start looking at your own beliefs around sleep, ask yourself:
- What do I actually believe about my sleep?
- When did I first start believing this?
- How often do I repeat it to myself, especially when I’m lying awake at night?
- And can I think of any nights that don’t quite fit the story I’ve been telling myself?

Working on the belief you hold about your sleep can create more change than most people realise. I’ve seen clients make incredible changes in their sleep simply by beginning to question the beliefs they have long believed about their sleep.

Over the years, I began to see just how powerful storytelling could be in my work.

What started in my private practice, creating bespoke stories for my clients, eventually led to the creation of drift - a collection of therapeutic sleep stories written to help you fall asleep.

drift is available to pre-order now. Link in bio. 🤍

Sleep is such an important part of the work at and I’m excited to be bringing therapeutic sleep stories into their programme as their newly appointed Sleep Ambassador.

A few behind-the-scenes moments from filming a new sleep story created specifically for the practice. 🤍

What if sleeping better starts with changing the story you tell yourself about sleep?

If you go to bed every night thinking, I’m never going to sleep, I’m a terrible sleeper, I’ll probably wake up at 3am, your mind becomes very familiar with that story, and over time, those thoughts can start to feel like facts.

So what happens when you start telling it something different? My body knows how to sleep. I can let the day go. I don’t need to try so hard.
Not once, but repeatedly, because the subconscious learns through repetition, and what we repeatedly think, feel and believe can become very familiar to us.

Tell your subconscious a new story about sleep often enough, and you might be surprised by what starts to change.

So many of us are craving simplicity right now, a quieter life, less noise, less pressure to keep up. And yet the moment we try to rest, the mind seems to speed up, trying to run through everything at once.

When life feels full and fast, the nervous system stays braced long after the day is done. So when you finally lie down, the stillness can feel almost unfamiliar, and the mind fills it with noise.

Tonight’s story is an invitation to strip it all back, to let the to-do list wait, loosen your grip on the day, and remember how good simple can feel.

We often don’t realise how big the role of the mind is when it comes to sleep.

You can be exhausted and still not be able to sleep because you haven’t given your mind any time to stop before you climb into bed at the end of the day. Why?

1. Your mind needs time to stop working.

All day, your mind is thinking, planning, solving, remembering and making decisions. We can’t expect it to go from all of that straight into sleep, it needs a period of time to rest and slow down.

2. A busy mind can keep you awake.

You can be physically tired, but if you’re still can’t stop thinking about tomorrow, replaying the day or worrying about something, your mind will stay awake.

3. Sleep comes when the mind has somewhere safer to go.

The more you lie there thinking I need to sleep, the more you can end up thinking about sleep, this then becomes another thing for your mind to focus on. Sometimes what we need isn’t to try and force sleep to happen, but to give the mind some time to become quiet and peaceful first.

That’s why the hour before bed matters.

It gives your mind time to slow down, so when you get into bed, it’s ready for sleep too.

The response to the first therapeutic bedtime stories has moved me more than I can say, the streams, the comments, the texts and DMs from people who felt understood for the first time in a while. Thank you. 🌙

So tonight, here’s the next one, a bedtime story for sad times.

As a hypnotherapist, one thing I see again and again is how sadness tends to surface right at bedtime. And there’s a clear reason for that, as you start to shut your eyes, the subconscious begins its work of processing the day, and any emotion left unresolved rises up to meet you at that threshold.

If you feel like sadness rises the moment your head hits the pillow, your mind is simply doing what it’s designed to do.

So tonight, there’s nothing else you need to do. Simply pull the blankets up, get comfortable, close your eyes, and press play.
