We recently met women from Greenwich’s Kaweyan Afghan community to hear about their experiences of local health and care services.

🔎They told us that language barriers, complex systems and poor follow-up can make care harder to navigate—and that feeling dismissed or not taken seriously can affect whether they feel confident seeking help again.

Their experiences show that better access also means making sure people feel listened to, respected and involved in their care.

Residents we spoke to at Avery Hill Foodbank—particularly older people—told us that digital-first GP systems can make it harder to get help when they would rather speak to someone directly.

Specialist Sickle Cell Support for Greenwich Families: For children living with sickle cell disease, the right support can make everyday care easier to manage—not just during a crisis.

Two community children’s nurses serving Greenwich and Bexley are now Roald Dahl Sickle Cell Nurse Specialists, helping families access more specialist advice, better coordinated care and support closer to home.

MSK physiotherapy services have changed, and appointments are no longer being provided at Manor Brook Health Centre or Greenwich Square. Circle Integrated Care now provides all MSK physiotherapy services in Greenwich.

The referral process hasn’t changed—but if you already have an appointment, it’s worth checking where you need to go.

Greenwich’s older Nepali residents told us that language barriers, online forms and self-service screens can make it difficult to book appointments and get help—especially when support is needed urgently.

They want clearer information and more preventative health support delivered through trusted community spaces.
