Palmoplantar thickening is a symptom of more than 50 inherited skin conditions. A new classification system, called ‘palmoplantar epidermal differentiation disorders’ (pEDDs), reclassifies these conditions based on the gene and its function rather than on appearance. We’re excited to share the first in a four-part series of papers, now published in the BJD! This new classification system, developed by the Reclassifying Epidermal Differentiation Disorders Initiative (REDDI), is changing the way we understand inherited skin conditions.

This new framework groups disorders by their underlying gene, moving away from old names and creating a system that will help identify new and more targeted treatments.
