Historically, male patients have accounted for a small proportion of cosmetic procedures, according to Ms Nora Nugent, plastic surgeon and president of BAAPS.

The recent findings continue a broader downward trend in male cosmetic procedures seen over the past five years. Men accounted for 8% of all cosmetic procedures in 2020, before stabilising at around 7% from 2021 to 2023. In 2024, that figure fell further to 6.5%, then to 6.1% in 2025, marking the lowest proportion recorded in recent years.

The June issue of the Aesthetics Journal features plastic surgeon and president of BAAPS Ms Nora Nugent, consultant ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon Miss Elizabeth Hawkes and aesthetic practitioner Dr Sina Salimi.

This International Sun Week, we’re spotlighting the connection between skin health and metabolic function, inspired by the Medical Longevity Summit 2026 theme: Inside-Out Ageing.

From glucose balance and inflammation to mitochondrial energy and hormonal shifts, metabolic health plays a defining role in how skin responds to environmental stressors like UV. When internal systems are optimised, skin is better equipped to repair, protect and maintain its resilience over time.

At MLS 2026 (co-located at CCR 2026), curated by Dr Mayoni Gooneratne and Aesthetics Journal, the focus is clear: longevity and aesthetics are no longer skin-deep, they’re systemic.

And while we’re thinking inside-out, don’t forget the fundamentals: daily SPF, consistent protection and smart sun habits remain essential in preventing premature ageing and supporting long-term skin health.
