The sympathetic nervous system work prepares you for action, we need this and it has a surge in energy to fight or flight. Should this surge in the sympathetic nervous system persist then it develops symptoms of stress or trauma. Your system can find regulation again through therapy. I went through childhood trauma, and I went through my healing process before becoming a somatic experiencing therapist. You can heal. It also incorporates belief, emotions, perceptions etc but we keep coming back to the body to go into the deepest and oldest part of the brain structure, the stem, to be with sensations, posture, and we incorportate movement.

A somatic exercise to find comfort in the mind when we move into the body. The body has a natural rhythm to contract and expand, you can become aware of this the body expands a little more. Hence, this has opened your nervous system a little more, which reduces the stress of the holding.
