Empower Me by Midula Dey Helping adults & children to thrive:
raise self-esteem, build confidence & foster a positive mindset

Over the past two decades, I’ve been dedicated to helping teams and companies achieve their goals in the financial services and market research industries. However, I grappled with imposter syndrome and feelings of inadequacy. It wasn’t until I created the ‘Empower Me’ Framework, a five-step approach, that I overcame these doubts and embraced my true self. I’m the author of ‘Empower Me,’ a simple

framework designed to boost self-esteem, nurture confidence, and foster a positive mindset. This tool is user-friendly for both adults and parents seeking to empower their children. I wholeheartedly believe that ‘Empower Me’ has the power to transform, unlocking your or your child’s potential and instilling the belief that you are ‘good enough'. Don’t miss the chance to unlock your potential, chase your dreams, and thrive!

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to take a step outside.

You stay indoors.
You hibernate.
You build your own world.
You don’t need anyone.
You look outside thinking, perhaps today is the day you venture out.
You think about it for a second.
Thinking about it is enough for you.
You convince yourself that you’ll do it tomorrow.

And you feel fine about it.
You feel good about it.
It’s easy.
So, you continue.

Then tomorrow comes and the prospect of taking a step outside becomes a bigger thing to do.
So, you don’t.

And do you know what?
When I’m in this place, I know how I’m behaving is normal.
I’m also aware how dangerous being in this state of mind can be for me.

I’m naturally lazy. I naturally seek comfort.

So, if you’re someone like me who gets stuck in this place,
here are three hacks to try out:

👉Commit to seeing a friend
Why?
Because that shame of not turning up or cancelling on them is a great motivator

👉Commit to something that has a financial penalty
For me it’s getting my hair cut or coloured. If I don’t turn up at the appointments, I have to pay a fine.

👉Open your windows.
What I’ve found really helpful over the past few weeks is opening my windows.

I know this sounds such a simple thing to do, but there’s something so special about it where you let the world in.
Where you hear the noises of the world outside poring into your home.
You form a connection.

What did I do today?

I stepped outside for a haircut.
I didn’t want to let the person down.
I didn’t want a financial hit.
I didn’t want to let my friend Ann down who had recommended Georgia.
My hair was in a mess!!!!

I started off the day opening my windows.
I thanked my neighbour for making a lot of noise, and I thanked the workmen for chatting outside my flat.

I hope you make it out today too!

Strategy 1:Build life and work skills to improve your personal effectiveness. Why?You become more confident, resilient, and smarter. How exactly?1. Problem-solving your way out of tricky situationships (not the romantic kind).2. Becoming an effective communicator so you can deal smartly with people and get things done.3. Working smarter, not harder. All of the above boosts your confidence and resilience. So, the next time that Impostor or negative self-doubt rears its head, you’ll have the tools to deal with it effectively.I could have been silly and posted a video of a pink furry monster dancing around as a teaser for what’s inside the Empower Me video vault. That would have been silly, right? To find out more: Click 👉https://miduladey.com.

Here’s why AI will encourage more fakery (written edit):

I catch up with a developer friend of mine every two weeks; he’s based in Europe. Let’s call him Harry Blue.

Harry Blue was asked to interview Alan Indigo, who had applied for the lead BA role for Asia. When Harry Blue looked at Alan Indigo’s CV, he was so impressed by his experience to the point it made him nervous about interviewing Alan.

So Harry Blue, being the diligent person he is, spent two hours preparing to ensure Alan Indigo had both a fair and enjoyable experience. But little did Harry Blue know, a sinister twist would reveal itself.

During the interview with Alan Indigo, Harry noticed a couple of things: Alan had logged on to two computers, there was a time delay between each of the answers (even accounting for it being an online meeting), Alan’s eyes would shift to the left every time he was giving an answer, and there was the clear sound of typing despite no movement from Alan Indigo.

What could be going on?

Worse was to unfold when the answers Alan Indigo gave were very basic and certainly not of someone with his claimed experience.

Could this be the ultimate fakery? It dawned on Harry Blue, was he being AI’d by Alan Indigo? Was he actually talking to the ‘LinkedIn’ expert?

It’s great to share knowledge, but skills building and overcoming the imposter syndrome gap requires you to apply the knowledge to real-life situations.

Anyone can read a book and give the ‘answer’, but if you really want to accelerate your career growth, learn to apply what you have learned and share in the right environments.

Then practice, practice, practice, review, and refine what you have learned, and seek out the best role models - the best role models are humans, not AI.

When you do that and acknowledge your imposter syndrome, you not only get the interview, you land the job, the opportunity, and most of all, you retain your credibility.

Don’t fake it!

The ultimate imposter—when people mistake your Zara jacket for one from Versace.

🧥I bought this Zara jacket a few years back in Rye from a thrift shop. Whenever I wear it, people either think it’s from Versace or Ralph Lauren. I always correct them, usually with a huge smile across my face followed by a little dance and then a bow.

⁉️What does this have to do with Imposter Syndrome?

🥴Because many of us feel too embarrassed or ashamed to state that we don’t have the experience or skills yet.

🤢We feel too ashamed or frightened of stating that we are in the ‘Imposter Syndrome’ phase of our learning cycle, where we are expected to be this ‘expert’, but we don’t have the skills or experience yet.

For some reason we believe we are responsible for not knowing everything (yet), not being ready yet, when those who hired us are aware that this is where we are and we do lack the knowledge.

Acknowledge your Imposter Syndrome so that you can tackle it head on.

🙌So rather than faking it and pretending to wear Versace, embrace your inner Zara jacket, and when you do, you’ll feel so much better!
