"The community here is wonderful, it’s opened my eyes to drama and how much work is put into it. When I come here, I’m not Grandma or Mum, just Mary."

Mary, 78, lives with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Through the Dementia & Creativity Group at the New Vic Theatre she has found friendship, creativity and a place where she can simply be herself.

As part of Arthritis Action’s , a photography and storytelling project celebrating the power of community for people living with arthritis in Staffordshire, Mary shares her experiences of staying active, positive and connected.

📸 Introducing Portraits of the Potteries: Our Lives with Arthritis

Through photography and personal stories, this new project celebrates the power of community for people living with arthritis across Staffordshire.

Featuring portraits by local photographer Stephen Lawson, the project shares the experiences of five people who have found connection, friendship and support through local groups including the New Vic Theatre, FRONTLINEdance, Birches Head Get Growing CIC and Father Hudson's Caritas.

Their stories highlight the positive impact that community can have on wellbeing, confidence and living well with arthritis.

The Chronic Conditions Campaign launched today, bringing together expert perspectives on a range of conditions affecting people across the UK, including arthritis, diabetes, stroke, kidney disease and high blood pressure.

We're pleased to have partnered with Mediaplanet on the campaign, with our Medical Advisor, Dr Wendy Holden, sharing her expertise.

In our article, Osteoarthritis: More Than Wear and Tear, we explore why osteoarthritis is a complex condition that goes beyond the common misconception that it is simply an inevitable part of ageing.
