Have you ever found yourself replaying something you thought you’d already moved through?
A conversation.
A relationship.
Something you said.
Something you wish you’d done differently.
And suddenly your mind is right back there again. 💭
We can assume this means we’re going backwards.
But sometimes, our mind isn’t looking for another answer.
It’s looking for safety.
Our nervous system can revisit, replay and analyse experiences in an attempt to understand what happened and protect us from experiencing that pain again.
I caught myself doing this recently and realised something:
I didn’t need more analysis.
I needed regulation.
So I came back to my body.
My breath.
My surroundings.
The present moment.
And that’s the reminder I want to share today.
Healing isn’t about never being triggered again.
It’s about learning to recognise what’s happening and meet ourselves differently when it does.
With more awareness.
More compassion.
More softness.
So next time your mind starts searching for closure again, try asking:
“What does my nervous system need from me right now?”
Sometimes the answer isn’t closure.
Sometimes it’s simply safety. 💕✨
One baby step at a time.
