Chronic pain in hEDS and HSD rarely has one cause.

This month’s Zebra Club member meetup brought back Dr. Leslie Russek Leslie Russek, physical therapist, researcher, and Professor Emeritus at Clarkson University.

Part 1 of her Pain Series looks at nociplastic pain, the kind driven by a sensitized nervous system instead of tissue damage. She also gets into why fibromyalgia and hypermobility get confused for each other, and why a normal scan doesn’t rule out real pain.

Save this one for the next flare.

Part 2 goes live next week for Zebra Club members.

“It’s just hypermobility pain.” It’s not.

Managing pain in hEDS/HSD means knowing what’s actually causing it. In Part 2 of our Pain Awareness Month series with Dr. Leslie Russek, PT, DPT, PhD, OCS, we’re breaking down nociceptive and neuropathic pain, the two types rooted in “issues with the tissues.”

Joint instability. Nerve compression. Inflammation, local and systemic (MCAS included). Each one needs a different approach.

The big reframe: it isn’t the hypermobility causing your pain. It’s the instability.

Save this for your next flare. Share it with someone still guessing which strategy to try.

Part 3 (Nociplastic pain) is coming. Follow so you don’t miss it.

And today, we’re kicking off our live pain series with Leslie Russek on our platform. Three weeks of pain education. Are you signed up?

hEDS/HSD pain isn’t one thing. It’s three.

For Pain Awareness Month, we’re breaking down the 3 types of pain that show up with hypermobile EDS and HSD: nociceptive, neuropathic, and nociplastic. Most people only ever hear about one. All three can be happening at once, and how much each contributes can shift from day to day or even hour to hour.

Understanding which type of pain you’re dealing with matters, because it isn’t “just” pain. It’s tissue stress, nerve involvement, nervous system sensitization, or some combination of the three.

Content developed with insight from Dr. Leslie Russek, PT, DPT, PhD, OCS. She will be presenting THREE pain sessions for us in September. It’s not too late to join us for that.

Save this for the next time someone tells you it’s “just” pain. Share it with someone who needs the words for what they’re feeling.

We’re gearing up for Pain Awareness Month this September & we’ve got something really unique lined up.

hEDS and HSD pain is rarely just one thing. It’s often several types layered at once, and that’s exactly why we created this September’s Pain Series.

This 3-week series is exclusively for Zebra Club members, and it’s free. Join Dr Leslie Russek and Jeannie Di Bon Founder & CEO of The Zebra Club | Hypermobility Specialist on Sept 8, 15 and 22.

Register on the event page (link in bio) and you’ll get reminders ahead of each session.

Hypermobility and joint instability don’t disappear just because you’re strong.

If you’ve built muscle but your joints still feel like they could give way, you’re not doing it wrong. In hEDS and HSD, strong muscles often overwork to compensate for lax ligaments, which is why traditional strength training alone can leave you feeling just as unstable (sometimes more fatigued too).

Real stability comes from proprioception, breath, and control, not just load. That’s the order we follow in the Integral Movement Method: breath, awareness, stability, then strength. Created by hypermobility expert Founder & CEO of The Zebra Club | Hypermobility Specialist.

Save this for the next time someone tells you to “just get stronger.” 🦓

We know how hard it is to get access to real experts. So we decided to bring them to you.

Our Expert Masterclass Series is a new add-on for Zebra Club members, starting September 2026. Learn directly from some of the most respected voices in hypermobility, chronic pain, dysautonomia and chronic illness, with direct access in a small group setting.

Each expert leads three dedicated 75-minute sessions, giving real time to explore a topic in depth rather than a single surface-level talk.

This year’s lineup: Lorna Ryan on nutrition, Dr Alan Pocinki on sleep and autonomic dysfunction, Dr Tina Wang on fascia research, and Imogen Roux on breath, voice and nervous system regulation.

Choose all 4 experts, 2, or just 1, whichever fits you best. Deep dive sessions, exclusive resources, and recordings included at every level.

This is educational, not medical guidance or a replacement for it.

We are all zebras, not horses. Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is one of the most underdiagnosed invisible illnesses of the 21st century, and it’s time everyone knows why.

Jen Jennifer Kain shared a screening of her award-winning documentary, Exhausted Existence: An EDS Story, with our members, then joined us for a Q&A about a broken diagnostic system and the people living inside it.

She talked about the researcher who unknowingly inspired the whole project, the moment she realized asking for help wasn’t something to earn, and why she priced the whole thing at less than a cup of coffee.

Every quote in this carousel is Jen’s own words, taken directly from her live Q&A with our members.

You can watch it for $5 at https://www.goodstuff-story.co/exhuastedexistence.

Save this for the slide that got you, and tell us in the comments: which one resonated the most?
