I was speaking to a patient recently whoā€™s getting married later this year, and she said something that really stayed with me.

ā€œI feel like Iā€™ve suddenly aged overnight.ā€

The truth is, she hadnā€™t.

Ageing rarely happens all at once. It happens gradually, so gradually that most of us donā€™t notice it. Until one day, a photo catches us off guard. A reflection in a shop window. A wedding invitation pinned to the fridge.

What Iā€™ve learnt over the years is that most people arenā€™t actually afraid of ageing.

Theyā€™re afraid of what it makes them feel.

Less confident.
