Are you looking for support with managing chems*x?

While it often starts as a way to find connection, pleasure, escape, belonging, or intimacy, chems*x can gradually begin to impact your mental health, relationships, safety, work, and overall quality of life.

✨ You do not have to navigate this alone. ✨

Innisfree Therapy is introducing our new specialised Chems*x Recovery Programme. This structured group programme is designed for adults seeking to stop chems*x and build sustainable recovery within a safe, professionally facilitated environment.

We offer a confidential, trauma-informed, and s*x-positive space to better understand your relationship with chems*x alongside others who truly understand the complexities involved.

🔹 What this programme offers:
* A deeper understanding of chems*x and its underlying psychological patterns
* Support exploring chems*x as a coping strategy, survival response, and relational experience
* Practical tools for emotional regulation, relapse awareness, and managing triggers
* Honest conversations around s*xuality, intimacy, shame, and recovery
* A professionally held space grounded in compassion, safety, and confidentiality

🔹 Programme details:

• Rolling six-module programme over six consecutive weekends
• Participants can join at any point in the cycle
• 90-minute online group on Fridays
• In-person therapeutic work across weekends
• Bi-weekly aftercare following completion
• Facilitated by specialist clinicians working from trauma-informed, GBMSM s*x-positive, kink-aware and recovery-focused models

Modules explore key themes including: Digital triggers and online s*xual culture, s*xual desire and cravings, relapse awareness and safety, s*x-positive recovery, and building recovery capital for long-term quality of life.

When people talk about compulsive s*xual behaviour, s*x addiction, p**nography addiction, infidelity, or secret s*xual lives, the focus is often on the person engaging in the behaviour.

What gets overlooked is the partner whose world has just been turned upside down, who is traumatised, heartbroken, and thinking:

Was any of it real?
How did this happen?
What else don't I know?

From the moment of discovery, many people find themselves questioning not only their partner but also their own reality.

This experience is often referred to as betrayal trauma.

At Innisfree Therapy, we recognise that partners affected by compulsive s*xual behaviours and betrayal trauma require dedicated therapy in their own right.

In response to this clinical need, Innisfree Therapy is introducing Phoenix Partners, a specialised psychoeducational group programme to support partners in safely processing the rupture within the relationship.

If you need support for betrayal trauma and want to learn more about our intensive programmes exclusively for partners, contact us today and let’s start the conversation.

What is Chems*x?

Chems*x, also known as “party and play”, is a term used by GBMSM (Gay, Bis*xual, and other Men who have S*x with Men) for drugs taken before or during s*xual activity with the goal to sustain, enhance or boost the s*xual experience.

Chems*x has become an increasing concern; data from the UK reported that general drug use was around three times higher for GBMSM vs heteros*xual men, with reported use of stimulants being around five times higher, methamphetamine use 15 times higher, and the use of alkyl nitrites (”poppers”) was around 19 times higher.

Chems*x can have serious consequences for both physical and mental health, with many people experiencing anxiety, depression, paranoia, trauma, and relationship difficulties.

For some, what begins as a way to enhance connection or fuel an escape can gradually become something that feels difficult to control.

At Innisfree Therapy, we provide specialist support for GBMSM struggling with Chems*x and compulsive s*xual behaviours.

Our Chems*x Recovery Programme helps GBMSM clients understand the factors driving these behaviours and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves, their s*xuality, and others.

If Chems*x is affecting your mental health or relationships, contact us for a confidential conversation. Support is available.

Many men carry pain they never speak about.

Our society conditions men to be strong, silent, and self-sufficient. They’ve been taught that emotions are signs of weakness and that asking for help is a sure signal of failure.

But all that silence takes a toll because no one is meant to hold everything inside. If men were to speak of the pain, they would reveal trauma, shame, or a lifetime of suppressed emotion that masquerades and spills out through addiction, isolation, rage, or deep depression.

This June, in honour of UK Men's Mental Health Week, Innisfree Therapy supports men in unlearning old-fashioned narratives that keep them stuck in silence and in learning that healing isn’t about being less of a man.

Let’s break the stigma together.

At Innisfree Therapy, we offer compassionate, evidence-based therapy, in person or online. Our goal is to help clients regain control over their lives, build healthy relationships, and lead more fulfilling lives.

If you or someone you love needs support or wants to learn more about our confidential services, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Shame thrives in silence.

Many people struggling with compulsive behaviours, addiction, trauma, or mental health challenges spend years convincing themselves they should be able to cope alone.

They tell themselves:

"I should be stronger."

"I can stop whenever I want."

"No one can ever find out."

But shame keeps people isolated and trapped in cycles they desperately want to escape.

At Innisfree Therapy, we understand that shame is often a protective response rather than a personal failing. It develops for a reason, but over time it can become one of the biggest barriers to seeking help.

We provide a space where the underlying causes of shame can be explored with experienced clinicians who understand the role shame often plays in trauma, addiction, and mental health difficulties.

If you need support or want to learn more about our confidential services, contact us. Healing can only begin when secrecy ends.
