Re+balance

Re+balance Women's Health Company I decided to get into personal training after completing my degree in Sport Science at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

During my studies I was able to specialize in strength and conditioning, and completed my dissertation in exercise physiology. I have always enjoyed studying how the body works and how to get the best results regarding training and by personal training I can take my knowledge into a practical setting. Having been taught Nutrition, Physiology and Strength & Conditioning all at university standard I can offer a scientific programme that guarantees results.

Endometriosis can affect far more than your cycle from pain, heavy bleeding and fatigue to bloating, bowel changes, poor sleep and feeling like your body is constantly inflamed.

We can’t diagnose or cure endometriosis, but our testing helps look at the wider factors that may be adding to how you feel.

Our blood testing can assess things like iron, inflammation, thyroid, blood sugar, vitamins and hormones all important when you’re dealing with heavy periods, exhaustion or stubborn symptoms.

A DUTCH test can give a deeper look at hormone patterns, cortisol and how oestrogen is being metabolised, helping us tailor support around your symptoms and cycle.

A GI-MAP can explore gut health including dysbiosis, inflammation markers, parasites, H. pylori and digestive function especially useful if bloating, constipation, diarrhoea or painful bowel movements are a big part of your endo picture.

It’s about joining the dots, creating a personalised plan and helping you feel more in control alongside your consultant

Hormone health affects so much more than your cycle.

Your mood, energy, sleep, skin, digestion, cravings and ability to lose weight can all offer clues about what’s happening beneath the surface.

Your symptoms aren’t something you should simply learn to live with. The right testing can help identify potential imbalances and give you a clearer, more personalised plan forward.

Your cortisol isn’t just “high” or “low”

Cortisol follows a rhythm throughout the day. It should rise in the morning to help you wake up and gradually fall towards bedtime.

But what if that rhythm is completely off?

You might be waking exhausted, relying on caffeine, crashing in the afternoon, feeling wired at night, struggling with sleep, or feeling like your body is constantly stuck in stress mode.

This is where the DUTCH test can be incredibly useful.

Rather than giving us one snapshot, DUTCH can show us your cortisol pattern across the day alongside cortisol metabolites and cortisone helping us understand not only how much cortisol you’re producing, but how your body is processing it.

And DUTCH Complete goes much further than cortisol alone. We can look at your s*x hormones and their metabolites alongside your stress response, giving us a much bigger picture of what could be driving your symptoms.

Stop guessing what your hormones are doing.

DROP DUTCH below and we’ll send you the details

Not every symptom in your 40s is perimenopause.

Fatigue? Perimenopause.
Weight gain? Perimenopause.
Hair loss? Perimenopause.
Brain fog? Perimenopause.
Low mood? Perimenopause.

But what if it isn’t?

Low iron, thyroid dysfunction, blood sugar issues, nutrient deficiencies and other hormonal changes can cause symptoms that overlap heavily with perimenopause.

And if everything gets blamed on “your hormones changing”, something else could be completely missed.

Perimenopause may absolutely be part of the picture but it shouldn’t automatically be the whole explanation.

Don’t guess. Investigate the bigger picture.

Low progesterone isn’t something you should just guess from symptoms.

Poor sleep, worsening PMS, anxiety, spotting before your period, breast tenderness, heavier periods and changes in your cycle can all occur alongside hormonal changes but symptoms alone can’t tell us exactly what your progesterone is doing.

This is why timing your test matters.

Progesterone is ideally tested in the mid-luteal phase, around 5–7 days after ovulation, when levels should be near their peak.

For a typical 28-day cycle, this is often around day 19–21 but not everyone ovulates on day 14, which is why testing based on your individual cycle gives us a much more meaningful result.

At Re+Balance, we look beyond progesterone alone. We assess it alongside your wider hormone picture to help understand what may be driving your symptoms.

Insulin resistance is far more common than most people realise and it can be developing long before you’re ever told there’s a problem.

Over time, this can show up as stubborn weight gain, increased hunger and cravings, energy crashes after meals and difficulty losing weight despite feeling like you’re doing everything right.

And no insulin resistance doesn’t automatically mean you have diabetes. It can be an earlier metabolic change that is worth identifying and addressing.

Here are 5 things everyone should know about insulin resistance 👆

If you’re experiencing these signs and want to understand what’s actually happening inside your body, we can test the key metabolic and hormone markers that routine blood tests can often miss.

3 NUTRIENTS YOUR THYROID NEEDS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY

Your thyroid doesn’t just rely on TSH being “in range”. It needs the right raw materials to actually produce and activate thyroid hormones.

IRON → supports thyroid peroxidase, an enzyme involved in making thyroid hormones. Low iron stores can interfere with this process.

SELENIUM → helps convert T4 into the more active T3 and supports the thyroid’s antioxidant defences.

IODINE → is an essential building block used to make both T4 and T3.

So when someone has symptoms associated with poor thyroid function, looking at nutrient status alongside a comprehensive thyroid panel can give us a much better picture than TSH alone.

Your thyroid needs the right signals but it also needs the right raw materials.

“Cortisol belly” is mostly social media nonsense.

You’ve probably seen the posts:

“If you carry weight here, your cortisol is too high.”

From a doctor’s perspective, it’s nowhere near that simple.

Yes, cortisol can affect appetite, blood sugar, sleep and how the body stores fat.

But you cannot look at someone’s stomach and diagnose high cortisol.

Weight around the middle can be influenced by loads of things insulin resistance, changing hormones, poor sleep, stress, thyroid function, diet, activity and genetics.

So while cortisol can be part of the picture, calling every bit of stubborn belly fat a “cortisol belly” is misleading.

Your belly isn’t a cortisol test.

If your body has changed and you don’t understand why, stop guessing based on Instagram symptoms.

Test. Understand what’s actually going on. Then address it properly.

Being told your thyroid is “normal” because your TSH is in range doesn’t necessarily give you the full picture.

TSH isn’t actually a thyroid hormone. It’s a signal from your pituitary gland telling your thyroid what to do.

So while TSH is useful, testing it alone can miss important information about how your thyroid is actually functioning.

A more complete thyroid picture can include:

TSH — the signal telling your thyroid to produce hormones
Free T4 — the main hormone produced by your thyroid
Free T3 — the more active thyroid hormone your cells can use
TPO antibodies — can indicate autoimmune thyroid activity
Thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb) — another important marker for autoimmune thyroid disease

You can have a TSH sitting comfortably within the laboratory reference range while other thyroid markers or antibodies tell a very different story.

And this matters when you’re experiencing things like fatigue, unexplained weight changes, feeling cold, hair thinning, constipation, low mood or changes to your cycle.

The problem isn’t that TSH is a “bad” test.

The problem is treating one marker like it tells us everything about your thyroid.

This is why at Re+Balance we look beyond a basic TSH and assess the wider picture alongside your symptoms.

Been told your thyroid is normal but still don’t feel right?
