🩴 Are flip-flops bad for your foot health?

A BBC article has explored whether flip-flops could be harmful to foot health. Our Consultant Podiatrist, Mr Thomas Walton has shared his thoughts

He explained that flip-flops are not inherently bad for your feet... but, as with most things, moderation is key.

Flip-flops can be a great choice for short periods and to wear casually during hot weather as open footwear that allows your feet to stay cool and well ventilated.

However, problems can develop when flip-flops are worn for long periods, especially if you walk long distances, and increase your step count partake in more demanding activities. As flip-flops offer limited support, this can place extra strain on the feet and lower limbs, potentially increasing the risk of tendonitis and other overuse injuries.

For longer days spent outside on your feet, supportive summer shoes like Birkenstocks or Fit Flop are usually a better option. 👟

The key is to choose footwear that suits your activity.
