Many people are told to monitor their weight.

Far fewer are told to monitor their muscle.

Yet maintaining muscle mass is associated with better strength, recovery, treatment tolerance and quality of life.

Had anyone ever spoken to you about muscle loss during cancer treatment? 👇

With warmest wishes,
Helen.

I'm so excited to be speaking at the upcoming Women's Wellness Weekend!

🗓 Sunday 14th June
⏰ 3pm
🗺️ The Lodge, Duxford

My talk is called:

Before Your Body Shouts: Hormones, Health and Cancer Prevention

Over the past 13 years in clinic, I've seen time and time again how the body often whispers before it shouts.

Hormone imbalances, changes in energy, sleep disturbances, digestive symptoms, weight changes, inflammation and other seemingly unrelated symptoms can all provide valuable clues about our health.

In this talk, we'll explore:

• How hormones influence overall health and wellbeing

• The link between hormones and cancer risk

• What nutrition, lifestyle and functional medicine can teach us about prevention

• Practical, evidence based steps you can take to support your future health

My goal is simple.

I want you to leave feeling informed, empowered and confident about the choices you make for your health going forward.

I promise you'll learn something you didn't know before.

I'll also be there throughout the day with an exhibitor stand, so please do come and say hello.

Who’s coming? I’d love to meet you in person! 😊

Cancer nutrition is rarely black and white.

Sometimes the priority is maintaining weight.

Sometimes it's preserving muscle.

Sometimes it's managing side effects, and often it's all 3.

What advice were you given about food during treatment?

With warmest wishes,
Helen.

One of the most common questions I hear from cancer patients is:

"Why has nobody spoken to me about nutrition?"

To be clear, nutrition does not replace surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, or medication.

There is a growing body of evidence showing that factors such as nutrition, physical movement, sleep, stress, muscle mass, inflammation, gut health, and metabolic health can influence quality of life, recovery, treatment tolerance, and long term health.

This is the conversation I wish more people had access to.

I'm back after a short break and looking forward to sharing more evidence based cancer support, one topic at a time.

What is the one thing you wish someone had told you after your diagnosis?

With warmest wishes,
Helen.

One of the biggest gaps I see in clinic is not a lack of treatment, it’s a lack of support around treatment.

Women are often told what to take, but not how to live with the side effects that come with it.

Joint pain, stiffness, fatigue, these aren’t small things when you’re dealing with them every day.

There are options that can be explored alongside your care.

The key is knowing what they are, and having the right conversations with your team.

If this is part of your experience, know that you’re not alone in it. 🥰

Low vitamin D is one of the most common findings I see in clinic, especially in women on hormone blocking therapy.

It is not just about bone health. It plays a role in muscle function, inflammation, immune response, and how your body copes during and after treatment.

If you are experiencing joint pain, stiffness, or fatigue, this is something that should be checked rather than guessed.

There is also growing evidence linking adequate vitamin D status with better outcomes in breast cancer, which is why it deserves attention.

This is about understanding what your body needs and supporting it properly, not following generic advice.

Please do not start supplements without ensuring they are appropriate for your diagnosis, treatment, and medications. Work with a registered oncology nutritional therapist or speak with your oncology team or GP before making any changes.

More to come in this series.

At the start of this year, I made a quiet decision that 2026 was going to be about me too, not just professionally, but personally.

For years, like so many of us, I have put my family first and myself somewhere further down the list, much further down the list! This week feels like a small but important shift.

Ballet for the very first time earlier this week, and today my first in person Pilates class, which I absolutely loved. I’m under no illusion that getting out of bed tomorrow will not be graceful in any sense. I seem to have discovered muscles that have been quietly hiding for years, but it was completely worth it.

What I did not expect was how much I would enjoy the sense of connection as well. Being in a room with others, all learning, all focusing, all having a bit of a laugh, it reminded me that movement is not just about the body, it’s about community, energy, and doing something for yourself.

Having an instructor who is also a physio made it feel safe, purposeful, and genuinely supportive, which is exactly what I talk about within my RESPECT® model when it comes to Physical Movement.

This is not about extremes or pushing yourself into the ground, it’s about showing up for yourself, trying something new, and building strength in a way that supports your life.

So this is me, gently putting myself back on the list.

Now I am curious, what do you prefer, Pilates or yoga, or have you tried something completely new recently?

This is where understanding the biology matters.

There is no single solution, but there are ways to support what is happening in your body.

The goal is not restriction or guesswork, it is reducing inflammation, supporting your joints, and helping you stay on treatment with better quality of life.

More evidence based support is coming over the next few days.

Follow so you do not miss it.

With Warmest Wishes,
Helen. X

I have read your comments and messages over the last 24 hours, and I hear you.

The pain, the frustration, and the feeling of not being properly supported is coming through loud and clear.

Part 2 builds on this and starts to move us forward, because there are things you can do to support your body alongside treatment.

Over the next few days I will be sharing the most evidence based strategies, from nutrition to movement to the right testing, so you can feel more in control.

Make sure you are following so you do not miss what is coming next.

PS This was originally one full video, but social media did not allow for the length. I did not want to compromise on the information, so I have split it into parts. Thank you for bearing with me. me.
