β¨ Words from the Midwife I Still Carry With Me β Part 2 β¨
π€ "Cold hands are normal, a cold chest is not"
- Donβt layer up just for cold fingers!
- Check the back of the neck β warm there = perfectly warm enough.
π€ "You cannot spoil her before twelve weeks"
- Newborns canβt form habits yet.
- Every time you pick them up, you build trust, not bad habits.
- Responding early = crying gets less, not more.
π€ "The second night is the loud one"
- Itβs called Second Night Syndrome β totally normal!
- They want to be held all night β itβs not about milk supply.
- Knowing this saved me from panic at 3am.
π€ "Fed, dry, warm and still crying? She can wait one minute"
- Long enough for you to breathe and reset.
- Not long enough to hurt them β itβs okay to pause.
- That one minute saved me more times than I can count.
π€ "The health visitor is NOT here to judge your house"
- I cleaned for hours before every visitβ¦
- All they really care about: babyβs weight + how YOU are doing.
- Your home doesnβt need to be perfect.
π€ "You are allowed to say you are NOT okay β to me, today"
- I said it. She stayed. She listened.
- This is the one I remember most, every single time.
