Dealing isn’t just done on the streets, it’s often done digitally. To avoid detection, messages tend to use shorthands, but if you’re not familiar, you could end up agreeing to something you don’t mean to. We’ve decoded some of the shorthands so you can make your decisions wisely. Take these emojis, for example:

Emojis are often used instead of words to avoid filters.

🍃 🌿 – cannabis

💊 – pills / M**A

🐎 – ketamine

💉 – injecting drugs

💜 – lean

🔥 – strong or “good quality”

People who use drugs or are in recovery face real, preventable risks during cancer treatment - mostly because of stigma, fear, and fragmented care.

They may be reluctant to seek care
Symptoms may be easier to miss
They may be starting treatment from a less healthy base, underweight or malnourished)
They may be unwilling to be honest about drug taking due to perceived stigma
They may not have access to integrated care for substance use and cancer
They may struggle to keep on top of appointments for treatment
They may be fearful of taking pain relief, especially if in recovery, or at risk of overdoseTalking about it openly saves lives.

💛This World Cancer Day, we stand by those struggling with the impact of cancer while also overcoming substance use.

If that’s you - come and talk to us. Go to the link in our bio.
