From a cancer nobody talked about… to a conversation we all need to have. 💙🫘
When I was diagnosed with bowel cancer at 39, I never imagined that years later I’d be sitting alongside M&S and Bowel Cancer UK talking about something as simple as beans.
But simple things can matter.
Most of us in the UK aren’t eating enough fibre, despite strong evidence that a fibre-rich diet is associated with a lower risk of bowel cancer.
That’s why I was delighted to join the M&S × Bowel Cancer UK Better with Beans panel, talking about how we make fibre easier, more affordable, more appealing and simply part of everyday life.
For me, this is what good health campaigning should look like: bringing together lived experience, healthcare, nutrition, charity and a major retailer to help make healthier choices more accessible to everyone.
Because prevention doesn’t have to be complicated.
Sometimes it might start with something as simple as adding a tin of beans. 🫘
I’ve written more about our conversation, why fibre matters, and some really simple ways to get more of it into your diet.

And tell me are you getting enough fibre? 🫘
