Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday began in medieval England as the day people returned to their mother church on the fourth Sunday of Lent. Servants and apprentices were given the day off to travel home, often bringing gathered spring flowers for their mothers. Over time, the tradition of homecoming and honouring mothers became the day we recognise today.

This year it feels tender for me. It’s my first without any of my fur babies and 14th Mothering Sunday without my mum, and I miss them all deeply.

Holding love and gratitude for all the mothers, ancestors, and women who have cared for us.

I woke to blue skies this morning, so headed out to investigate what’s around in preparation for my foraging walk planned in a few weeks.

Violets are pushing through, cleavers are tangling along the hedgerows, and the bright green spears of wild garlic are starting to emerge. The bluebells are just beginning to rise, blackthorn is frothing in white blossom, and the birds are in full, jubilant song. The land is definitely waking.

If you’d like to slow down and truly notice what’s growing on your doorstep, come and join me for a gentle wild food and plant exploration walk around Warlingham.

We’ll wander locally together, learning to identify whatever the season is offering. I’ll share folklore, traditional uses, and simple ways to work respectfully with these plants, so you leave not just with knowledge, but with a deeper connection to the land right here at home.

This is a relaxed, welcoming walk no experience needed, just curiosity and sturdy shoes possibly wellies as it’s been such a wet winter.

Looking for something different for your Mum for Mothers day?

Join Jakki for a practical early spring foraging walk as we explore the hedgerows, field edges and woodland margins of Happy Valley to see what’s just beginning to emerge.

Early March is a key time for nutritious spring greens and tree buds, the earth is just waking up and offering some of her most vibrant medicine.

On this walk you’ll learn:

• How to identify common early spring plants
• What’s safe to forage and what to leave
• Sustainable harvesting guidelines
• Traditional food and medicinal uses with some folklore
• Simple preparation ideas you can try at home

This session is perfect for beginners and anyone wanting to build confidence with seasonal wild foods.

A beautiful way to celebrate Mother’s Day shared experience, fresh air, and learning something nourishing together

This photo was taken on New Year’s Eve 2025, and in it I felt beautiful like a winter princess.

I worked hard on myself throughout 2025: biweekly therapy, strength training at the gym, daily walks, and eating in a way that nourished rather than punished my body.

In 2026, I intend to continue all of this with more consistency, allowing my insides to truly match my outsides. When I look at this photo, it shows me how far I’ve come and how I feel about myself now. I know I still have a way to go, but this journey isn’t about losing weight quickly. There will be no surgery or jabs, it’s about moving slowly, consciously, and staying aware of when even “good” habits begin to turn into crutches.

Preparing and eating my meals has become a ritual, because this body of mine has been through so much, and she deserves so much more.

2025 was about shedding.
2026 is about moving forward and truly giving myself permission to be seen.

Women’s Circle Beginning January 2026
A sacred space for 6 women to gather in circle, share from the heart, and reconnect to themselves, to the Earth, and to one another.
Each month we will:
Work with the medicine of herbs and plants, learning from their healing wisdom
Move with the rhythms of the moon and the seasons
Create through monthly craft projects, bringing intention into form
Share what is unfolding in our lives, held in a space of trust and compassion
This is a closed circle, journeying together with the same women each month to deepen connection and trust.
Your commitment:
This is a journey we take together, your presence matters.
Even if you cannot attend a session, your place in the circle remains held and your payment still applies.
You’ll continue to receive reflections, practices, and connection through our private WhatsApp group, ensuring you stay part of the unfolding journey.
