New research suggests some breast cancer survivors whose heart function was affected by HER2-targeted treatment may not need to stay on heart medication for life 💜

In a small trial of 90 women whose heart function had recovered:

🔹 46 gradually stopped their heart medication, while 44 continued

🔹 After 1 year, 98% of those who stopped had no decline in heart function

🔹 1 woman experienced a decline, which improved after restarting medication

🔹 No heart failure symptoms or hospital admissions were reported

The study was small and follow-up was only 1 year, so more research is still needed. But the findings suggest that for some people, lifelong heart medication may not always be necessary once heart function has recovered 🙌

Any changes to heart medication should only be made with medical supervision and ongoing monitoring ‼️

Two people with HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer could be eligible for Gedatolisib treatment, but one mutation changes its FDA status. Here’s why…👇

Gedatolisib is already FDA approved for some people with HR+/HER2− metastatic breast cancer, but PIK3CA status still matters 💜

In VIKTORIA-1 researchers looked separately at people with and without a PIK3CA mutation 🧬

For people without a PIK3CA mutation, gedatolisib + fulvestrant, with or without palbociclib, is already FDA approved in the US ✅

For people with a PIK3CA mutation, VIKTORIA-1 also showed promising results, and an application has now been submitted to the FDA to expand the approval to this group 💡

This is why genomic testing can be so important in metastatic breast cancer,
one mutation can change which targeted treatments may be available 🔍

Save this or share with someone navigating HR+/HER2− metastatic breast cancer 💜

Metastatic Mondays: Updates in metastatic breast cancer💜

New trial results suggest that tucatinib could help delay disease progression in people with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer🙏

The HER2CLIMB-05 trial looked at adding tucatinib to trastuzumab + pertuzumab maintenance treatment🔬

What did the trial find?📊

Patients receiving tucatinib had a median of 24.9 months before their cancer grew or spread ➡️ This compared with 16.3 months without tucatinib💊

For people with brain metastases, progression-free survival was 8.5 months with tucatinib vs. 4.3 months without⏳

These results suggest tucatinib may help delay cancer progression, including for people living with brain metastases🧠

Side effects can be easy to brush off, especially when you’re already dealing with everything else that comes with breast cancer treatment 💜

But keeping your care team updated on what you’re experiencing can help them understand how treatment is affecting you and whether anything needs to be managed differently 🙏

This includes symptoms or side effects that might feel small, embarrassing or not “important enough” to mention. If something has changed or is affecting your day-to-day life, it’s worth bringing up 📝

For HER2+ early breast cancer treatment doesn’t always follow the same order 💜

Some people have neoadjuvant treatment before surgery, while others have surgery first and adjuvant treatment afterwards. Which approach is recommended can depend on factors including the stage of the cancer, tumour size and whether lymph nodes are involved.
