A chat between UKAD Athlete Commission members Javier Bello and Mel Nicholls about some of the red flags they've seen when it comes to supplements.

Do your research, think food first, and if you decide to take a supplement then make sure it is batch tested and certified by a risk minimisation programme.

UKAD National Trainers know the weight of their responsibility to athletes and support personnel, that's why they will always make sure to give you the correct guidance and information to help you stay on top of your anti-doping responsibilities.

If you're ever unsure about something to do with anti-doping, ask a National Trainer, visit UKAD's website, or reach out to us directly via the contact details on our website 💻 https://brnw.ch/21x6mKg

If you're considering taking electrolyte supplements, we suggest you approach them with the same caution you'd approach any supplements when it comes to anti-doping.

This is because there is no guarantee that any supplement is free from prohibited substances, and consuming a contaminated product could lead to you facing an anti-doping rule violation. Therefore, you should assess the need, the risk, and the consequences before using any product.

Before selecting any product, make sure you have done your research and taken steps to minimise the risks. Some ways to do this include:

🗣️Speaking to a qualified Sports and Exercise Nutritionist (i.e., on the Sports and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENR)) about your need to use a product in the first place.

✅Prioritising the use of products that have been certified by a supplement testing and certification programme over products that have not been tested for the presence of prohibited substances.

Remember to always check that the batch number of the specific product you intend to use is listed on the certification programme website before use.

2027: A new World Anti-Doping Code, shaped by athletes.

From 1 January 2027, a new World Anti-Doping Code comes into force, bringing changes to the UK National Anti-Doping Policy and UK Anti-Doping Rules.

To help National Governing Bodies prepare, we're running a series of in-person briefings across the UK. This week, organisations joined us at our London office for a first look at the changes and what they mean in practice.

We'll be sharing more detail on the changes to the 2027 Code on our website this autumn.

In case you missed it, earlier this year we spoke with the Bello family, where they shared an important message about remembering why you got involved in sport in the first place and why being 100% you matters.
