๐ŸŽ† ๐Ÿพ Bonfire Night is comingโ€ฆ how will your pet cope?

Fireworks can be stressful for dogs, cats and small pets, and with Bonfire Night getting closer, now is the time to start preparing.

๐Ÿ’ญ Ask yourselfโ€ฆ how did your pet cope with fireworks last time?

Did they hide, tremble, pace, pant or struggle to settle? Perhaps they became unusually clingy or went off their food? Signs of firework anxiety aren't always obvious, so it's important to recognise when your pet might be feeling worried.

๐Ÿก Start preparing a safe space now. Somewhere calm, comfortable and familiar that your pet can retreat to when things get noisy. Getting this ready ahead of time can help them feel more secure.

๐Ÿพ If your pet struggled with fireworks last year, don't wait until the first bang. Speak to your local Goddard Vet Group practice in advance. Our veterinary teams can discuss your pet's individual needs and help you plan ahead.

๐Ÿ’™ A little preparation now can make a big difference when Bonfire Night arrives.

Another pesky grass seed! ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿถ

Lovely Evie the Cocker Spaniel came to see us and, hidden away beneath those gorgeous long ears, was a grass seed that had been there for around a month!

Thankfully, it was found and removed, and Evie was the perfect patient throughout her day with us. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

A good reminder that grass seeds can be tricky to spot, especially on our longer-coated and floppy-eared friends, so regular checks after walks can really help. โœจ

Meet lovely Lilly, who we believe may be our eldest feline patient ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’› She came in for a routine blood pressure check, which is especially important for older pets as high blood pressure can affect their eyes, kidneys, heart and brain. What a wonderful girl!

Grass seeds may look harmless, but their barbed shape means they can travel in one direction only - into your dogโ€™s skin, ears, eyes, paws or nose. Take a minute after every walk to check your dog over, especially during the summer months โ˜€๏ธ

If you notice excessive licking, head shaking, sneezing or a painful eye, contact your vet promptly ๐Ÿ“ž

Meet Hitty & Hatty โ€” this lovely brother and sister duo popped in for their 3-monthly weight check and flea & worm treatment ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

Regular flea and worm treatments are so important for helping to protect our pets from unwanted parasites, which can cause irritation, illness and can even be passed on to other pets in the home. Keeping up to date with treatments helps keep them happy, healthy and comfortable ๐Ÿ˜Š

โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿถ Is it too hot to walk your dog?

As temperatures rise this weekend, itโ€™s important to know when a walk could become dangerous for your pet. Heatstroke can happen quickly โ€” especially in puppies, older dogs, flat-faced breeds, larger dogs, and overweight pets.

Swipe through our guide to see what temperatures are considered safe, when to take extra care, and when itโ€™s best to avoid walks altogether. ๐ŸŒก๏ธโžก๏ธ

๐Ÿ’ง Top tips for hot weather:
โ€ข Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
โ€ข Always carry fresh water
โ€ข Stick to shaded routes where possible
โ€ข Avoid hot pavements โ€” if itโ€™s too hot for your hand, itโ€™s too hot for paws
โ€ข Never leave your dog in a parked car

If you notice excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse, contact your vet immediately.

Stay safe and keep those tails wagging this summer ๐Ÿ’™
