An important update if you use the contraceptive implant 👀

Nexplanon is now licensed for up to 5 years of contraceptive use in the UK, rather than 3 years.

The implant itself hasn’t changed. The updated licence reflects evidence supporting its effectiveness for contraception during years four and five.

If you already have an implant and you’re unsure what this change means for you, speak to a healthcare professional for advice based on your individual circumstances 💙

Some STIs can be present in different parts of the body, including the throat, ge****ls or re**um, depending on the infection and the type of s*xual contact you’ve had 🧪

That’s why you might be asked questions about oral, vaginal or a**l s*x when accessing STI testing. It helps healthcare professionals understand which samples may be appropriate for you.

Because STI testing isn’t always about taking one sample and testing for everything. It’s about making sure the testing you receive reflects your individual circumstances 💙

Your partner tested negative, so that means you’re negative too… right? 👀

Not necessarily.

Even when two people are having s*x with each other, their s*xual health circumstances aren’t identical. Previous exposures, when each person was tested, window periods and the tests or sample sites used can all be different.

And an STI isn’t necessarily passed on every time someone has s*x.

The only way to understand your STI status is through testing and advice based on your individual circumstances.

You see the stand. You see the leaflets. You see us out in the community 👋💙

But that’s only one part of what our outreach team does.

Alongside attending community events, the team works with schools, colleges and local organisations, delivering both private one to one sessions and group sessions to provide s*xual health information, education and support.

They’re also there to help people in the community access the s*xual healthcare they need, whether that means answering questions, explaining the support available or helping someone understand where to go next.

Behind all of that is relationship building, planning, preparing appropriate resources and finding ways to make s*xual health information and services more accessible to different people across our community.

Because outreach isn’t simply about being at an event. It’s about helping bring s*xual health information, support and care closer to the people who may need it 💙

Already had an STI test? You might still be advised to test again 🧪

There are a few reasons why a healthcare professional might recommend another test. It could be because of the timing of your first test, follow up after an infection or treatment, or because something has changed since you were last tested.

S*xual health testing isn’t always a one and done process. What’s recommended depends on the infection, timing and your individual circumstances.
