☀️ Know the Difference: Heat Exhaustion vs Heatstroke ☀️

As temperatures continue to rise across the UK, it's important to recognise the signs of heat-related illness and know when to act.

💧 Heat Exhaustion is caused by the body overheating and dehydration. Symptoms include heavy sweating, dizziness, headache, nausea and muscle cramps. Move the person to a cool place, encourage them to drink fluids and help them cool down.

🚨 Heatstroke is a medical emergency. Signs include confusion, loss of consciousness, seizures, very hot skin and a high body temperature. Call 999 immediately if you suspect someone has heatstroke.

Taking simple steps to stay cool, drink plenty of fluids and check on vulnerable family members, neighbours and those receiving care can help prevent serious illness during hot weather.

Stay safe, stay hydrated and look out for one another. 💜

💊 *Medication safety starts with getting the basics right.*

Every medication administered has the potential to improve someone's health—but only when it is given safely and correctly. That's why the *7 Rights of Medication Administration* are a fundamental part of delivering safe, person-centred care.

The 7 Rights are:
✔️ Right Person
✔️ Right Medication
✔️ Right Dose
✔️ Right Time
✔️ Right Route
✔️ Right Documentation
✔️ Right to Refuse

These principles help reduce the risk of medication errors, protect the people we support, and ensure everyone receives the safe, effective care they deserve.

During *National Wellness Month*, we are reminded that safe medication practice is a key part of overall wellbeing—supporting not just physical health, but confidence, independence, and quality of life for every individual we care for.

At Churchill Healthcare, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of medication safety through training, vigilance and following best practice every day.

Because every check matters. Every person matters. 💙

💙 August is National Wellness Month 💙

Wellness is about so much more than exercise or eating well—it's about supporting every aspect of our health, independence and quality of life.

In health and social care, promoting wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. From encouraging good nutrition and hydration to supporting mobility, medication safety, mental wellbeing and meaningful social connections, every small action can make a big difference.

Throughout August, we'll be sharing practical advice, educational resources and simple tips to help promote healthier, safer and happier lives—for the people we support, their families and our dedicated care teams.

Because when we prioritise wellness, we empower people to live well, maintain their independence and thrive.

💙 Follow along this month as we celebrate National Wellness Month together.

Sleep isn't just about the number of hours you spend in bed—it's about the habits that help you get quality rest. 🌙💜

Good sleep hygiene can improve your mood, concentration, energy levels and overall wellbeing. Small changes to your routine can make a big difference over time.

✨ Try to:
🌙 Go to bed and wake up at the same time each day
📵 Put screens away before bed
🛏️ Keep your bedroom cool, dark and quiet
☕ Limit caffeine and heavy meals in the evening
🚶 Stay active during the day
🧘 Create a relaxing bedtime routine

Looking after your sleep is one of the best things you can do for both your physical and mental health.

🛏️ Pressure Care at Home – Tips for Families 🛏️

Supporting a loved one at home includes helping to protect their skin and prevent pressure sores. Small, consistent actions can make a big difference to comfort and wellbeing.

💡 Top Tips for Pressure Care:

• Encourage regular movement – Changing position at least every 2 hours (if appropriate) helps relieve pressure on vulnerable areas.

• Check skin daily – Look out for redness, discoloration, swelling, or broken skin—especially on heels, hips, elbows, and the base of the spine.

• Keep skin clean and dry – Gently cleanse and dry the skin, paying close attention to skin folds. Moisture can increase the risk of skin breakdown.

• Use pressure-relieving equipment – Specialist cushions, mattresses, or heel protectors can reduce pressure and improve comfort.

• Support good nutrition and hydration – A balanced diet and plenty of fluids help maintain healthy skin and promote healing.

• Ensure correct positioning – Use pillows or supports to relieve pressure and keep the body aligned comfortably.

• Act early – If you notice any changes to the skin, seek advice promptly from a healthcare professional.

Caring for someone at home can feel overwhelming, but you’re not alone. At Churchill Healthcare, we’re here to support you with guidance, reassurance, and high-quality care every step of the way. 💚
