Sorry I’ve been a little quiet this week… it’s been my birthday week, but unfortunately it’s also been an unwell one! 🤦♀️🎂 It’s officially postponed to tomorrow.
It did get me thinking about something I get asked a lot, so I thought it would be helpful to share. Save for when you’re ever feeling under the weather too:
“What should I do about my food and weight loss goals when I’m ill or taking medication?”
The answer is usually… nothing.
When you’re unwell, your priority isn’t fat loss. It’s recovery.
Keep nourishing your body, stay hydrated, take any medication as prescribed, and focus on getting better. Your body needs energy and nutrients to heal.
What about exercise?
As a general rule of thumb:
👉 If symptoms are above the neck (a mild cold, runny nose, sneezing), and you feel up to it, some gentle movement may be fine.
👉 If symptoms are below the neck (chesty cough, fever, sickness, body aches, upset stomach), skip the workout and rest.
Most importantly, let your goals guide you, not rule you.
One missed workout won’t derail your progress. A few days eating differently won’t undo months of consistency.
Looking after yourself is part of the journey too.
Get well. Rest. Recover. Then get back to it. ❤️
