💥 THERAPY MYTH MONDAY 💥

“You need to be injured to have a sports massage.” ❌ MYTH!

Sports massage isn’t just something you book when something goes wrong.

Regular treatment can be useful even when you’re feeling good — particularly if you train regularly, have a physical job, spend hours sitting at a desk, or simply notice your body getting tight and stiff.

Sports massage can help to:
💪 Reduce muscle tension
🏃 Support training and performance
🔄 Aid recovery between sessions
🙌 Maintain movement and flexibility
🛠️ Address little niggles before they become bigger problems

Think of it as maintenance for your body, rather than something you only turn to when you’re injured.

You don’t need to be an athlete.
You don’t need to be injured.
You don’t even need to exercise regularly!

Sometimes you just want to move better and feel better. 💚

🏠 How much space do you need for a mobile appointment?

Not as much as you might think!

Joe brings the treatment couch and everything needed with him. We just need enough clear space to set the couch up and for him to comfortably move around it — a living room, spare bedroom or even an office can usually work perfectly.

One of the best things about mobile therapy is that we come to you. No travelling home after your treatment, no busy clinic and no worrying about finding somewhere to park. 🙌

Not sure if you have enough room? Send us a photo of the space and we can let you know! 📩

And while we’re doing Ask Us Anything, what would you like to know? It can be about treatments, the business, mobile appointments or even us! 😂

💚 FRIDAY — RECOVERY & PERFORMANCE 💚

Why are rest days so important?

It can be tempting to think that more training = more progress, especially when you’re feeling motivated. But recovery is actually part of the work too! 🙌

When you train, your body needs time to recover, repair and adapt to what you’ve asked it to do.

Rest days can help:
💪 Give your muscles time to recover
🛡️ Reduce the risk of overuse and injury
🧠 Give you a mental break from training
📈 Support consistent, long-term progress
⚡ Help you come back feeling refreshed and ready to go again

And a rest day doesn’t necessarily mean sitting on the sofa all day! 😂 Gentle walking, stretching or light movement can all be part of an active recovery day if it feels good for you.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your performance is give your body permission to rest.

Train hard. Recover properly. Come back stronger. 💚

💚 THURSDAY — COULD THERAPY HELP? 💚

Could therapy help if you sit at a desk all day?

Sitting at a desk might not feel physically demanding, but spending hours in the same position can definitely leave your body feeling it! 😩

By the end of the day you might notice:
💻 Tight neck and shoulders
🙌 Stiffness through your upper or lower back
🤕 Tension headaches
🪑 Feeling stiff when you finally stand up
🔄 Reduced movement and flexibility

Treatment such as massage and cupping therapy can help work on those tight, overworked muscles, reduce tension and get you moving more comfortably again.

But treatment is only part of it! Regular movement throughout your working day, changing positions, taking breaks and looking at your desk set-up can make a big difference too.

You don't have to be an athlete to benefit from treatment — desk jobs can be hard on your body too! 😂

📩 If your neck, shoulders or back are constantly reminding you that you work at a desk, send us a message and let's see how we can help.

💚 WEDNESDAY — WHY DOES IT HURT? 💚

Why does my lower back hurt after sitting?

You’ve been sitting down all day… so why does your back feel like it’s done a full workout? 😩

Sitting for long periods can leave your lower back feeling stiff, tight or achy, especially if you’re spending hours at a desk, driving or not moving around much throughout the day.

A few things can contribute:
🪑 Staying in one position for too long
💻 Your sitting position and desk set-up
💪 Muscles becoming stiff or fatigued
🚶 Not getting enough movement throughout the day

And sometimes the answer isn’t finding the perfect posture — it’s simply changing position and moving more often.

Try getting up regularly, going for a quick walk, changing how you’re sitting and adding some gentle movement into your day.

If that tight, achy feeling keeps coming back, hands-on treatment may also help with muscle tension and movement. 🙌

📩 Struggling with lower back tension? Drop us a message and we can chat about whether treatment might be suitable for you.

💚 TUESDAY TREATMENT 💚

What actually happens during a sports massage?

If you’ve never had one before, it’s completely normal to wonder what to expect — especially if the words sports massage make you picture someone absolutely battering your muscles! 😂

Your appointment is tailored to you and what you’re coming in for.

💬 Chat – We’ll talk about what’s bothering you, your lifestyle, training and what you’d like to get from treatment.

🔎 Assess – We’ll look at the problem area and your movement to work out what might be contributing.

🙌 Treatment – Your sports massage will focus on the areas that need attention, with the pressure and techniques adapted to you.

💡 Aftercare – You’ll be given advice to help support your recovery after treatment.

📅 Next steps – We’ll chat about how you’re feeling and whether another appointment may be beneficial. There’s no pressure to book a course of treatments if you don't need one.

The aim isn't just to give you a massage and send you on your way — it's about understanding what your body needs and how we can help you move and feel better.

Never had a sports massage and have questions before booking? Drop us a message! 📩💚

💥 THERAPY MYTH MONDAY 💥

“A massage has to hurt to work.” ❌ MYTH!

Ever heard “no pain, no gain” when it comes to massage? It’s definitely not that simple!

Sports massage can sometimes feel firm or a little uncomfortable, particularly when working on tight or tense areas, but it doesn’t need to be really painful to be effective.

The pressure and techniques used should be adapted to you, your body and what we’re trying to achieve.

A good treatment is about working with your body — not seeing how much pain you can tolerate! 🙌

And communication is always important. If something feels too uncomfortable during your treatment, say so! Pressure can be adjusted throughout.

So if fear of a painful sports massage has been putting you off booking… don’t let it! 💚

📩 Not sure which treatment would suit you? Drop us a message and we can have a chat.

💚 SATURDAY — ASK US ANYTHING! 💚
We thought we’d make Saturdays a little bit different!

J.O Performance & Therapy is very much a husband-and-wife business — Joe might be the one doing the treatments, but there’s definitely someone else behind the scenes doing the social media, messages and keeping everything organised 😂🙋‍♀️

So Saturdays are going to be a mixture of your questions, a little bit about us, behind the scenes and more about the business!

So tell us, what would you like to know?
