sound therapy with sabira and I are hosting Into The Light - a Summer Solstice yoga and sound therapy morning this Sunday 21st June at 10am. The combination of the 2 are lovely but here’s why they can both support you to a more regulated nervous system… 🧡
Both practices work on the autonomic nervous system (ANS), shifting the body from sympathetic state (fight/flight) into parasympathetic activation (rest/digest)
Yoga helps by…
* Breathwork (pranayama). Slow, controlled breathing directly stimulates the vagus nerve
* Movement (asana). Builds strength and releases stored stress and tension held somatically in the body
* Meditation & stillness. Can quiet the mind, reducing rumination and anxiety
* Present moment awareness. Interrupts the stress cycle by anchoring awareness in the body
Sound therapy works by…
* Vibration. Sound frequencies travel through the body and directly stimulate the vagus nerve
* Brainwave entrainment. Voice and instruments guide the brain from beta (busy/stressed) into alpha or theta states (calm, creative, restorative)
* The relaxation response. Sustained sound can trigger a physiological shift, potentially slowing heart rate, and dropping cortisol
* Safety signalling. Certain tones can signal safety to the nervous system, helping move out of a freeze or hypervigilant state
Together they can create a beautiful effect! The body is prepared through movement and breath, then the sound takes it deeper into restoration. The combination can be more powerful than either practice alone might achieve.
