Actions you can take to stay safe in hot weather:

🌞 Keep out of the sun at the hottest time of the day.
🌞 Keep your home cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun.
🌞 If you go outside, cover up with suitable clothing such as an appropriate hat and sunglasses, seek shade and apply sunscreen.
🌞 Drink plenty of fluids.

Please be safe and keep cool🙂

On Friday 27 March, the government published new, evidence-informed guidance to help parents and carers of children under 5 navigate screen time.

Digital screens are now a normal part of family life. The early years are however critical for development - 90% of a child’s brain development occurs by age 5, making it a critical period for the development of social, emotional and cognitive skills.

The advice is informed by recommendations from an expert panel and has also been developed with parents. It is designed to provide practical, clear and straightforward advice to help families make informed choices that support their child’s development during the years that matter most.

Some of the key recommendations for parents include:

🔆Avoid screen time for under 2s and for 2-5 years, try to keep it to no more than an hour a day.

🔆Choose slow-paced, predictable content as this is better for young brains. Fast-paced, over-stimulating social media-style videos may affect how young children learn to concentrate, so it’s best to avoid them.

🔆Avoid young children using screens alone as it reduces opportunities for social time and active play. Try watching and discussing content together with your child as it supports their development and helps you protect them from harmful content.

🔆Swap out screens at bedtime or mealtimes for reading stories or playing simple games.

Children copy everything you do – their brains are like sponges. Be mindful of how often you use screens around your child.

🌱🌞🌻Spring has finally sprung and we couldn’t be more excited. But as the days get longer and the weather starts to improve, new hazards for children emerge👀

That’s why CAPT have created a brand-new information page explaining the risks and the simple things we can all do to keep children safe from serious accidents.

𝙎𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜🧽🧴⛑️

Whether you’re a spring cleaner or not, this is the perfect time to think about where you store your cleaning products. Small children are curious and want to learn more by putting things in their mouths. So, if they can reach it, they’re at risk of accidental poisoning.

🧽 Keep cleaning products out of their reach in a high or lockable cupboard. And don’t forget to put them away after each use.

🧽 Don’t rely on safety caps – they slow children down, but they’re not childproof.

🧽Look for products that contain a bittering agent like Bitrex – it tastes so horrible children will spit it out instead of swallowing.

𝘿𝙚𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜🧹🧴⛑️

Decluttering your home can feel like an impossible task, especially if your to-do list is already overwhelming. But here are some easy decluttering wins that are quick and help stop serious accidents.

⚠️ An easy place to start decluttering is the toy box! Look out for: Broken toys, super-strong magnets that can rip through your child’s belly, easy-access button batteries that can kill your child if swallowed, long cords that can strangle small children and small parts that can choke them.

⚠️ Avoid decanting cleaning products into jars or other prettier dispensers. It might look pretty but it can put your child at risk.

⚠️ Clearing walkways and stairs of clutter can reduce trip hazards and falls. Plus, if there is a fire in your home you’ll have a clearer escape route.

⚠️ Recycle your used button batteries as soon as you can. Flat button batteries are still dangerous
