💛 WORLD SU***DE PREVENTION DAY – 10 SEPTEMBER 💛

Today, at Motherly Love Domiciliary Care, we’re taking a moment to recognise World Su***de Prevention Day.

Mental health isn’t always visible.

Someone can turn up to work, care for their family, smile, laugh and carry on with everyday life while privately struggling more than anyone realises.

That’s why checking in matters.

A simple “How are you, really?” can open a conversation. Listening without judgement can make somebody feel less alone. And sometimes, encouraging someone to reach out for professional support can be incredibly important.

💛 To our team: your wellbeing matters to us too.

Caring for others can be incredibly rewarding, but we also recognise the emotional demands that can come with working in care. Our staff have access to free confidential counselling, and we will always encourage our team to speak up when they are struggling or need support.

We also encourage ongoing learning around mental health and su***de awareness, because having the confidence to recognise when somebody may be struggling whether that’s a colleague, an individual we support, a relative or someone in our own lives matters.

If you’re struggling today, please don’t feel that you have to carry everything alone.

📞 Samaritans: 116 123 — free, 24 hours a day

📱 Shout: Text SHOUT to 85258 for free, confidential 24/7 support

You never truly know what somebody else is carrying. 💛

Such a privilege to have known and cared for Bill. Some people leave a lasting imprint on us as carers, and he certainly was one of those very special people. Back with your lovely Sally now. ❤️ Sending lots of love to all the family.

💜 🧡October Availability 💜🧡

We’re pleased to share that, from October, we will have some availability to welcome new individuals and families to Motherly Love.

For us, care has never been about simply completing a list of tasks. It’s about getting to know the person, understanding what matters to them and providing the right support to help them continue living safely, independently and happily in their own home.

💜 Personal care & support with daily routines
💜 Medication support
💜 Dementia care
💜 Companionship & social outings
💜 Meal preparation & household support
💜 Respite and support for family carers
💜 Hospital discharge & convalescence support
💜 End-of-life care
💜 Bespoke care packages tailored around the individual

As a small, local care provider, continuity is incredibly important to us. We want the people we support to know the carers walking through their door and for families to have the reassurance of knowing who is caring for their loved one.

Whether that means helping someone get ready for their day, enjoying a cup of tea and a chat, getting out into the community, supporting someone through a difficult period, or being there for a family when care needs become greater we tailor our support around the person.

Our aim will always be to help people remain in the home they love, maintain their independence and continue doing the things that matter to them.

If you’re considering care for yourself or someone you love, you’re very welcome to contact us to discuss what support you’re looking for and whether Motherly Love could be the right fit for your family.

💜🧡 WE’RE NUMBER ONE IN RYEDALE! 🧡💜

We’ve just received our latest rankings from Homecare.co.uk and we are absolutely over the moon! 🥹🏆

Our latest results show Motherly Love ranked:

🏆 1st out of 10 home care providers in Ryedale 🎉
⭐ 6th out of 97 providers across the YO postcode area
💜 9th out of 149 providers across North Yorkshire
🧡48 out of 1016 providers across Yorkshire and the Humber
🌟 9.7/10 review score

To be ranked NUMBER ONE in Ryedale means more to us than I can put into words.

Motherly Love was built around a very simple belief: care should feel personal. It should be kind, compassionate and flexible, and the people we support should always feel that they matter.

These rankings aren’t just numbers on a screen. They’re a reflection of the wonderful feedback from the individuals and families who trust us to come into their homes and be part of their lives.

And to my team 🧡💜this belongs to every single one of you. Every early morning, late night, extra five minutes, reassuring conversation, cup of tea, laugh, hand held and moment where you’ve gone above and beyond has helped build Motherly Love into what it is today.

We are still a small, local care company and to be sitting 1st in Ryedale and within the top 10 across the whole of North Yorkshire makes me unbelievably proud.

A huge thank you to our individuals, their families and our incredible carers for believing in Motherly Love. And thank you .co.uk for providing a platform where families can share their experiences of the care they receive. 💜🧡

💜 A SUMMER IN SOCIAL CARE – SIENNA’S EXPERIENCE 💜

Earlier this summer, we spoke about how proud we were to welcome Sienna, a university student studying to become a Physiotherapist, to the Motherly Love team. We are now approaching Sienna heading back off to uni and have reflected on her time at Motherly Love 🧡💜

We loved the idea of showcasing how working in adult social care alongside university studies can give future healthcare professionals valuable, real-life experience so we asked Sienna to reflect on what her time with us has actually given her.

And rather than us telling you, we thought we’d let Sienna tell you herself… 💜👇

💬 In Sienna’s own words…

“Working as a domiciliary carer as part of the motherly love team during my summer while at university has provided me with valuable experience and allowed me to develop crucial skills to support my transition into working as a physiotherapist after graduation next year. Working directly with patients in their own homes has strengthened my communication, empathy and interpersonal skills, while also teaching me the importance of treating each individual with dignity, respect and person-centred care. The role has helped me develop greater confidence in working independently, managing my time effectively and adapting my approach to meet the varying needs of different individuals. It has also given me a greater understanding of the challenges people can face with mobility, independence and activities of daily living, which will be invaluable when assessing and treating patients as a physiotherapist. Overall, this experience has complemented my university and clinical placement learning and has helped me develop the professionalism, confidence and practical skills required to become a well-rounded allied health professional.

The interpersonal and professional skills that my time at motherly love has allowed me to develop include:
💜Communication – communicating clearly with patients, families and colleagues.
💜Empathy and compassion – understanding individual needs and providing supportive care.
💜Building rapport – developing trusting and professional relationships with patients.
💜Person-centred care – respecting individual preferences, dignity and independence.
💜Adaptability – adjusting communication and approach to different patients and situations.
💜Teamwork – working effectively alongside colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
💜Time management – managing visits, responsibilities and competing demands effectively.
💜Promoting independence – supporting patients to maintain function and independence in their own environment.
💜Safeguarding and risk awareness – recognising potential risks and understanding when concerns need to be escalated.”

For us, this is exactly why opportunities like this matter.

Social care gives students the chance to learn about the person behind the diagnosis their home, routines, independence, relationships, choices and what genuinely matters to them.

We hope more students studying Physiotherapy, Nursing, Occupational Therapy and other health and care professions consider spending their university breaks working in adult social care.

It might be a summer job on paper, but the experience, skills and relationships can go so much further. 💜

We’re incredibly proud to have Sienna as part of Motherly Love and to play a small part in the journey of a future healthcare professional. 🧡💜

💜🧡 24 HOURS WITH US | MOTHERLY LOVE 🧡💜

What does 24 hours in domiciliary care actually look like?

We thought we’d take you along for the day with Danielle & Saskia — not just for the care calls, but for everything that happens around them too.

Because behind every carer is a real person juggling work, family, homes, learning and life… while making sure the people we support can continue living theirs. 🏡💜

☕ DANIELLE

My day started with the essential first job… coffee! ☕

Then straight into life at home 🧹housework, washing, feeding the cats and cooking.

Once the jobs were done, Polly and I headed to the allotment 🌱🥕 to get our jobs done there too. A bit of precious mum and daughter time squeezed into a very busy day.

And with temperatures hitting a gorgeous 30°C, we managed to enjoy our dinner outside together in the sunshine. ☀️🥰

running a care service means there’s plenty happening before I’ve even started my own care calls…

📦 Sorting PPE and supplies for the team.
🚗 Delivering PPE out to our carers.
📚 Fitting in some professional development with Diabetes UK diabetes training and my final assessment because however experienced we become, learning in care never stops.

Then it was time to put the uniform on and start my caring shift, beginning in the beautiful town of Helmsley. 💜

My calls included cleaning, ironing, cooking and everyday household support 🧼all those jobs that can make such a difference to someone being able to remain comfortably in their own home.

There was also a spot of vegetable picking for one of the people we support 🥕, collecting a cheque from another person’s home and, of course, some companionship.

One of my favourite parts? 📚 Our little book club! We finished one book and decided together what we’re reading next.

Then, after a very full day…

🕑 2:01AM — finally clocking off duty and heading home! 😴

🥤 SASKIA

Saskia’s morning started slightly differently…

She got up late, after dropping her boys at nursery with a healthy breakfast going out of the window this morning, Red Bull came to the rescue! 🥤

Then it was time to get moving, quite literally, with Saskia walking around beautiful Malton and Norton between her calls. Been one of our walking domiciliary carers. 🚶‍♀️☀️

Her shift showed just how varied a home carer’s day can be.

🧺 Laundry and domestic support.
🧹 Cleaning, washing up and mopping.
🍽️ Cooking and preparing meals and drinks.
💊 Supporting people safely with their prescribed medication.
🩸 Diabetes support and monitoring.
📝 Completing body maps, care records and the documentation that goes alongside providing safe care.
🥤 And finding time to grab herself a drink between calls!

Saskia also fitted in some learning of her own, completing background work towards her Level 4 Health & Social Care apprenticeship. 📚💜

After completing her lunchtime calls, it was time for something equally important 💙an afternoon and evening with her boys. 🥰 and a nice early night 💤😴

💜 TWO VERY DIFFERENT DAYS. ONE SHARED PURPOSE. 🧡

Between us, in just 24 hours, there was cooking, cleaning, ironing, laundry, medication, diabetes support, documentation, companionship, errands, community travel, PPE deliveries, training and professional development.

And amongst all of this is the part of care you don’t always see in a photograph — documenting what we’ve done, checking medication, recording changes, continuing our learning and making sure the next person walking through that door has the information they need. 💊📚📝

Then there are our own homes to run, children to spend time with, cats to feed, allotments to tend and washing that apparently never ends! 😂

That’s the reality of domiciliary care.

It’s not simply walking into someone’s home, completing a task and walking back out.

It’s helping someone continue living their life, their way, in their own home. 🏡

Sometimes that means medication or diabetes support. Sometimes it’s making lunch, putting a wash on or getting the ironing done. And sometimes it’s sitting together and deciding which murder mystery we’re going to read next! 📚🥰

From Red Bull at the start of the day to clocking off at 2AM… this was 24 hours with Motherly Love. 💜🧡

And tomorrow? We do it all again. 🥰

A VERY PROUD PROMOTION AT MOTHERLY LOVE!

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Saskia has been promoted to Senior Carer at Motherly Love Domiciliary Care Ltd! 💜

Today also marks another exciting milestone as Saskia officially begins her Level 4 Health & Social Care Apprenticeship. 🎓👏

Saskia is not new to me, She actually worked with me previously, and from the very beginning I could see her potential, dedication and natural ability to care for others. It has been a real privilege to welcome her back into my Motherly Love team and to now watch her grow and develop into this well deserved Senior role.

Since joining us at Motherly Love Saskia has continued to show exactly the qualities we want to nurture within Motherly Love 💜🧡compassion, reliability, professionalism and a genuine commitment to providing high quality, bespoke care.

As part of her development into the Senior role, Saskia will be taking on additional responsibilities including:

⭐ Supporting and mentoring our care team
⭐ Helping to monitor the quality of care and service delivery
⭐ Staff supervisions
⭐ Care plan reviews and assessments
⭐ Staff spot checks
⭐ Supporting individual reviews
⭐ Helping us continually identify where we can improve and celebrate where we’re getting things right

One of the things I have always wanted for Motherly Love is for people to be able to grow with the company. I don’t want care to be somewhere people simply come to work. I want to recognise potential, invest in our team and give people genuine opportunities to develop their careers.

Having already known Saskia’s potential from her previous time working with me, it has been incredibly rewarding to see her return, step up, and continue to grow into the professional she is becoming. I am really looking forward to watching her journey continue in this next chapter.

Seeing that happening is something I’m incredibly proud of. 💜

Huge congratulations, Saskia! 🥂

Here’s to the beginning of an exciting new chapter as Senior Carer and Level 4 apprentice. We can’t wait to see you continue to grow into the role.

💜 Bespoke really does mean bespoke 💜🧡especially at end of life. 🧡

I’m so proud to see a vision come to life. What I envisioned for truly bespoke end-of-life care is now happening in real life, adapting in the moment, responding to what each individual actually needs, and making sure the care fits around them, not the other way around.

End-of-life care can change from one hour to the next, and our support changes with it.

We are currently supporting an individual with 6 visits throughout the day, with 2 of those visits requiring two carers 💜🧡meaning our Motherly Love team are providing the equivalent of 8 care calls every day to help keep this individual comfortable and supported at home. 🏡💜

But we also recognise when care isn’t needed.

If one of our double-up visits coincides with the District Nursing team attending and they have already assisted with personal care, we can change that planned double call to a single carer — or cancel the additional support if it simply isn’t required.

For our end-of-life individuals, we don’t charge for that unnecessary additional call, like we typically would for cancelled scheduled care visits.

It’s about providing the care that’s needed at that moment, rather than providing a service simply because it’s written on a rota.

And sometimes that flexibility works the other way too, needs can increase quickly, and we can provide several visits throughout the day when an individual and their family need us most.

Today, one of those changes has unexpectedly left me with a little 30-minute gap… so I’ve grabbed the opportunity for a coffee and bacon sarnie before heading back out! ☕🥓

This is domiciliary end-of-life care at Motherly Love: responsive, flexible, personal and built around the individual right until the end. 💜🧡
