Your scalp usually gives you signs when something’s off 👀

An oily scalp that feels greasy again after a day or two can sometimes come from buildup, heavy products, hormones, or simply not cleansing deeply enough.

A sore or tender scalp can be linked to irritation, inflammation, tight hairstyles, or underlying hair loss or scalp conditions.

And dry/flaky doesn’t always mean “dry.” Sometimes it’s actually excess oil and buildup sitting on the scalp.

The key is figuring out what your scalp is actually asking for, rather than treating every symptom the same ☁️

Sometimes when hair isn’t improving, the answer isn’t adding more… it may be doing less. 👀

I often see people layering product after product, changing routines constantly, trying every new trend, all while overlooking what their hair and scalp actually need.

More products don’t always mean better results. In fact, too much styling, too much switching, and too much experimentation can sometimes create more stress for the hair than support.

Healthy hair usually responds well to consistency, simplicity and the right foundations, not an overloaded routine.

In this carousel I’m sharing why doing more may be holding your hair back, and why simplifying your approach can sometimes make the biggest difference.

Because when it comes to hair care… less can often be more. ✨

Save this as a reminder.

So whats the difference between hair breakage and hair loss anyway? 🤔

As you can see in the beginning of this video you can see it’s clearly snapped hair. This can be caused by tight hairstyles, too much heat or bleaching. The second half you can see the new baby hairs that are trying to regrow to replace what is lost, the area around is sparse and the scalp is visible.

Breakage is preventable and loss is treatable, you just need to identify the difference first.

Supplements can be supportive for hair health, but more isn’t always better, and sometimes it’s not just what you take, but how you take it that matters.

A common example I discuss in clinic is iron and zinc, as these can compete for absorption when taken together, which may affect how well they work.

Timing, dosage, and whether a supplement is actually appropriate for you all matter, especially when you’re taking them to support hair concerns.

In this carousel, I’m sharing why certain supplements can interact, what to be mindful of, and why a more informed approach is always better than guessing.

Because supporting hair health is never just about adding supplements, it’s about using the right support, in the right way ✨

Save this for your supplement routine.

When applying Minoxidil there are 3 ways you can do it ☞

You can apply it directly onto the scalp, be cautious not to dispense too much when doing it this way.

Another way it to half fill the cap and dab it onto your scalp using your finger.

If you don’t want to use your fingers, a makeup brush is also a good option.

I see this all too often, a patient’s scalp issue will show significant improvement and they think they’re cured and can go straight back to bad habit that put them there in the first place 😔

Often the treatments I provide and recommend have to become apart of your new normal and that can be hard to adjust to. Always remember your Trichologist has your best hair and scalp interest at the forefront of what we do.

Is you scalp itching but can’t see any flakes? How can we treat this and what are some of the other causes?

A common cause in summer is sunburn on the top of the scalp. This can cause itching and sometimes flakes too. Coconut oil is a good solution to treat this.

Another cause would be build up that is causing itching, build up on the scalp can be treated by washing more frequently 🫧

If you have a scalp condition then getting to the bottom of this could help treat that itching symptoms.

Choosing a shampoo isn’t just about what makes your hair feel nice after washing, it should support your scalp as well as your hair. 🫧

I often say the “best” shampoo isn’t about trends or what works for someone else, it’s about finding one that suits your hair type and your scalp’s needs.

Look for:

pH balanced shampoos to support your scalp

Salicylic acid for oil control

Coconut based cleansers (e.g. Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate) for gentle non-irritating cleaning

Anti-fungals such as ketoconazole or piroctone olamine for dandruff reduction

Bisabolol, oat extract, or niacinamide for soothing

And often, if your scalp feels tight, itchy, uncomfortable or gets greasy very quickly, it may be a sign your current shampoo isn’t the right fit.

Because the right wash routine can make a bigger difference than people realise.
Save this before your next wash day ✨

If you’re suffering with two hair loss conditions at the same time, it’s probable that one can make the other look worse.

The most common is pattern hair loss which can exist alongside scalp issues or autoimmune conditions that cause hair loss.
