About a month ago a spider chose my window as her home. I watched her catch flies in her web, roll them up for later, then suck their blood.
Rain came, heavy rain. The web was destroyed and she retreated to the underside of the window frame. Pulling her legs close, making herself as small as possible. The rain lasted for days but she didn't move. I found myself fascinated by her patience and resilience. Would she be able to hold on? To survive without being able to hunt for food?
Then one morning I came downstairs, the sun was shining and she's busy finishing her new web, waiting for flies.
Our society is set up for pushing and producing through each day, no matter the internal or external conditions. It's designed around the circadian rhythm, which matches the hormonal cycle of men. Wake up, testosterone levels are high, expend energy through the day, tire as testosterone depletes, sleep, repeat.
Those who menstruate have a circadian *and* infradian cycle. The infradian hormonal cycle means that some days we're full of ideas, have lots of energy and love to socialise...and other days we need more rest, less exercise, and a digital detox.
If you feel like you can't keep pushing, consider that the reason you expect yourself to is because of patriarchy.
Step off the 24hr merry-go-round and get onto the moon clock rollercoaster ๐ข
In a society that measures a person's worth by the amount you can produce or purchase, some of the most radical acts involve making space and time to love, create and heal our self, community and planet.
We can revolutionise what it means to exist by enjoying
the p r o c e s s (the building *and* the resting inbetween) instead of chasing the outcome.
Take some deep breaths and remember that this is your life! Your wonderful life! And you are not going to rush, pressure and hustle yourself through this day or the next. Rebel by being languid, slow, intentional and contemplative...you'll know when it's time for web-building again ๐ธ
