A huge thank you to the fantastic team from BNY for volunteering with us at the Wythenshawe Park Horticultural Centre last week.

Your energy, enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in make a real difference to our charity and the people we support. From helping maintain gardens and growing spaces to tackling practical jobs that would otherwise take our small team weeks to complete, your contribution has a lasting impact.

Corporate volunteering is about much more than a day out of the office. Through their commitment to social responsibility, BNY is helping create greener community spaces, supporting biodiversity, and enabling local people to access activities that improve health, wellbeing, confidence and social connection.

Every hour volunteered helps us continue our work with local residents, disabled people, carers, older adults, and those affected by the cost of living crisis. Together, we’re creating healthier communities and a greener future.

What’s it really like to manage a charity?

Some days it’s writing funding applications, balancing budgets, answering emails and planning projects.

Other days it’s making tea, listening to volunteers, solving problems, watering plants, welcoming visitors, moving wheelbarrows, or simply being there when someone needs encouragement.

Managing Blossom charity means wearing many hats, but at the heart of it all is people.

It’s believing in the value of what we do, even when funding is uncertain. It’s celebrating every volunteer who gives their time, every visitor who leaves smiling, every person who learns a new skill, gains confidence, makes a friend, or finds a little hope in a difficult time.

It’s about creating opportunities, supporting others to succeed, and making sure everyone feels welcome.

The work can be challenging, but seeing the difference it makes to people’s lives and to our environment makes every early start, funding bid, and muddy pair of boots worthwhile. 💚

To everyone who volunteers, supports, donates, partners with us, or simply visits the centre — thank you. You are part of the Blossom story.

A huge thank you to the lovely team from SP Global who joined Blossom yesterday as part of 💚🌍

The team got stuck in supporting our gardens and green spaces, helping us care for this special corner of Wythenshawe Park for the benefit of people, plants, and wildlife.
We really appreciate your enthusiasm, hard work, and commitment to giving back to the community. We hope to welcome you back to the park again soon! 💚

Teamwork in the heat
Last week’s heat was a real challenge, but our brilliant Blossom team pulled together to keep the gardens and growing spaces cared for.
There was lots of watering, checking on vulnerable plants, giving extra attention to the glasshouse areas, and making good use of water from the butts to help us care for the plants more sustainably. Every can carried, every bed checked, and every little bit of shade found made a difference!
Hot weather can be tough on people and plants, but teamwork, kindness and practical action got us through. A huge thank you to our volunteers for showing up, looking after each other, and helping keep Blossom growing.

What a great time to visit the horticultural centre in Wythenshawe Park! So many cactus and succulents bursting into bloom 🌸. Magical to see rare and unusual plants and their flash of colour. Bees from love these flowers ❤️This is the reward for the fantastic conservation work our volunteers do 🥰

A huge thank you to John Henshaw who donated some fantastic cactus specimens yesterday. We will give them a good home where the public can enjoy and appreciate them 🌵🌵🌵
