Ingrowing Toenail and Nail Surgery
This patient had been putting up with a painful ingrown toenail for over 6 months because he was nervous about having the procedure done.
By the time he came in, both sides of the nail had become embedded and were causing ongoing pain, swelling, and infection.
After numbing the toe with local anaesthetic, I carried out a bilateral partial nail avulsion, removing the problematic nail edges. A chemical called phenol was then applied to prevent those sections from growing back and causing the same issue again.
The procedure itself was quick, and the patient was surprised by how comfortable it was after worrying about it for so long.
These photos show just how much discomfort an ingrown toenail can cause — and why it’s often best not to leave it too long. The good news is the toe is now fully healed and pain-free.
If an ingrown toenail is bothering you, don’t suffer in silence — treatment is often much simpler than people expect.
