🌬️ ASK ABOUT ASTHMA | 7–11 SEPTEMBER

This week is — a campaign supporting children and young people with asthma to stay well, active and in control of their condition.

If your child or young person has asthma, remember the 4 key asks:

✅ Have an asthma action plan– know what to do if symptoms get worse.

💨 Know how to use inhalers – make sure they are using their inhaler correctly.

📅 Have an asthma review – every year and after every asthma attack.

🌱 Think about air quality– pollution and other triggers can affect asthma.

September can be a particularly important time for children with asthma as they return to school, so now is a good time to check that their asthma is well managed.

If you have concerns about your child's asthma, speak to your GP or asthma nurse.

From today, children and pregnant women can get their flu vaccinations ahead of winter.

Children aged 2 and 3 can get vaccinated at their GP surgery, while most school-aged children will be offered the vaccine at school.

Pregnant women can speak to their maternity team, GP practice or community pharmacy about getting vaccinated.

It’s the first of the month. Here is our reminder to “Check on the First”

Early detection of breast cancer saves lives. Knowing what’s normal for you can help spot changes early.

Look out for:
• Lumps or swelling
• Skin changes or dimpling
• Ni**le discharge
• Changes in breast shape or size

Regularly check your breasts and report any changes to your GP.

If you’re aged 50–70, attend your routine mammogram appointments.

If you’re worried, get checked out — finding cancer early makes it much more treatable.

🎗️ September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month

Blood cancers include conditions such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. There are many different types, and symptoms can vary.

It’s important to be aware of changes that are unusual for you, including:

🔴 Unexplained tiredness
🔴 Unexplained bruising or bleeding
🔴 Frequent or persistent infections
🔴 Unexplained weight loss
🔴 Persistent fevers or night sweats
🔴 Unexplained lumps or swelling
🔴 Bone, joint or abdominal pain
🔴 Breathlessness or unusual paleness

Having these symptoms does not necessarily mean you have blood cancer, as they can be caused by many other conditions. However, if you notice something unusual or persistent, speak to your GP practice.

💙 Know the signs. Don't ignore changes. Get checked.

Bank Holiday Prescriptions 💊

With the bank holiday approaching, please remember to order your repeat prescriptions in good time.

Pharmacies and GP practices may have different opening hours over the bank holiday, so ordering early can help make sure you don't run out of your regular medication.

📅 Check your medication supply today
💊 Order repeat prescriptions when you have enough time for them to be processed
🏥 Allow extra time for your GP practice and pharmacy to be closed or busier than usual
📱 You can order repeat prescriptions through your usual NHS-approved method, such as the NHS App

Please don't leave it until the last minute. Make sure you have enough medication to cover the bank holiday period.
